About this deal

I will be doing some more tuff trays along side popular children's books in the next couple of months. Place coloured bowls around the edge of the tray for children to sort, compare and count the different coloured eggs. The textures, loose parts and vehicles all use different motor movements and is excellent for child development.

The tuff tray has been useful for nature learning activities as it helps keep the items we’re looking closely at contained, while providing a flat surface for filling in worksheets. They loved the crunchy popping sounds of the spaghetti and oats beneath their feet and the spiky texture between their toes. We took mud from the garden and some leaves and sticks we collected on a walk and added them to the tray. Use the ideas in this resource to create a magical fairy garden busy tray for your baby or toddler to explore. To make the tuff tray, cotton wool was used for the cloud, blue-dyed pasta for the rain, sweet corn for the sun and golden cake decorations for the sun rays, a mix of quinoa, rice and pasta dyed green for the grass, sand to represent the beach and a little beach hut made out of wooden pegs and large gems.

Walking on the Line is a fun and educational activity for all kids, whether you’re following the Montessori style of parenting and teaching or not. For the chicken area I used cornflakes, hid the egg pictures underneath and placed a few of the children’s bird toys on top – we only have one chicken toy so I added in some doves too (they got the idea! You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. The transport tray was created using a variety of materials from cereal, rice, water beads, and rocks.

The toddler was very specific about wanting different ‘fields’ so we used masking tape to mark these out on the tray. This is Farm Animal set-up is one of my favourite Tuff Tray Ideas for Toddler Sensory Play as it uses Edible Mud making it a Taste-Safe option for our little ones.

I used cornflakes as this is one of my go-to cereal foods to use, it can be crunched in the hand, rolled over with a rolling pin, scooped with vehicles or spoons and he loves eating it! The use of the fire engine was a great way of teaching my daughter about how they help us and not just when there is a fire e.

Children are able to sprinkle the 'sun rays' through the rain and mix the colours together to create tactile experiences to inspire curiosity and creativity. Naturally we then ended up tipping the contents of the bowl into the tuff tray and using it as a splash pad. I then added in their Playmobil farm barn , some toy tractors and other playmobil and happyland people and animals. We grabbed some Weetabix from the kitchen to make our fences, as we were a little short on sticks that day!

We are trying to avoid too much screen time here, but need to keep a 3 year old and a 9 month old happy.
