During a flashback, we see Tan learned her skills from her father since she was a little girl, and she’s honed those skills through many jobs to perfection. It managed to be sexy without going over the top and I liked it that the main character was far from a superhero who did everything correctly. According to the back of the book, the author got the idea for this book through talking to someone about pen names, and about how his pen name is a rearrangement of his real name's letters.

With Gun Honey we’re given the opening salvo of Joanna Tan’s adventures, a taste of her exhilarating life, a glimpse into the misfortune that shaped her into the hard living, take no prisoners absolute bad ass that she is and we see that she is a woman not to be trifled with. Ardai will realize he needs to improve the quality of his stories and put some meat into his world building. Through all this we're introduced to Joanna's past, and (perhaps) to the events which still motivate her now.

You will, however, quickly notice that a lot of the story’s success lies upon the insane curves of our female protagonist. This uncertainty, and the twists and turns of the plot, keep the story readable throughout and the atmospheric drawings - using both a clear realist style a degree of grainy murk - contribute to that, especially when capturing the seedier locations and events. It seems the world she's moving in now isn't so far from where she grew up, and she has motives which may mean that consequences and ethics take second place.I gambled on this because I saw a few friends had gave high marks and they had an awesome variant cover. Biography: Charles Ardai is the founder and editor of Hard Case Crime and the Edgar Award-winning author of the acclaimed novels Little Girl Lost and Songs of Innocence. Joanna has already turned down one offer to work as an independent contractor for her, but this time it’s harder to say no to the Burrow Bitch, and even Joanna’s conscience is starting to prick, although she won’t admit it. For example: the cops catch a notorious criminal but tell her "We won't put you in prison because you'll just escape anyway" (yeah, that's not how the law works) and then they make her do their job by catching a notorious bad guy instead of actually having police officers catch him (again, not at all how the law actually works). As new information comes to light about the identity of her mysterious quarry and the horror of her past is revealed, Gun Honey needs to adapt quickly if she wants to survive; Hell hath no fury like a woman hunted. The indie comic I would like to spotlight today is Gun Honey 1 by Charles Ardai and artist Ang Hor Kheng. This does require loads of suspension of disbelief, but once you’re set and ready to believe in anything, things move quickly and smoothly. Gun Honey is all of these things; an absolute experience that leaves you a little bit dizzy and breathless, wondering where the hell the time went and how the pages flew by so fast, but make no mistake it’ll leave you with a smile on your face and wanting more.That said, Kheng stays away from gratuitous cheesecake poses or silly body posture simply for aesthetics.
