About this deal

We offer wide range of memory cards for Huawei Ascend Y550 smartphone, delivered for free within UK. On screen this means app icons and text can look a little pixellated, and the Y550 won't be a smartphone which is flaunting its movie playback capabilities. Its screen has a very low resolution, Huawei's custom Android skin is clunky and awkward to use, the camera is poor, the HDR mode simply doesn't work, it only has 4GB of built-in storage and the underpowered processor sometimes results in sluggish navigation.

Hardened tech fans looking for the best of the best won't have read this far, so I'll assume those of you still here are interested in a decent all-rounder for not much cash. The settings are clear and neatly organised, there’s the usual Android browser and it’ll sync your life with the mighty Google cloud the very second you whack your GMail account in. It needs notching up a tad here, and some of the default settings in the phone need tweaking with those camera gremlins squished. Sensors Different sensors measure different physical quantities and convert them into signals recognizable by the mobile device. We use industry standard tests to compare features properly and we use the phone as our main device over the review period.

The back cover is slightly textured for better grip and a raised camera in located at the top center. The technology has several versions, which improve the connection speed, range, connectivity and discoverability of the devices. There’s a Themes app and a tab that lets you peruse Themes to download, but there simply aren’t any there.

It can be a little buggy especially when running low on juice although this may be down to my battery app rather than the phone. Information about additional software and hardware features of the rear camera which improve its overall performance. The Y550's camera really isn't anything special and won't be useful for anything more than the odd snap of you balancing something adorable on your dog's face. The camera interface is pretty basic but you do have a timer setting, object tracking and GPS tagging on photos, filters, audio notes, audio control (for taking snaps hands free), panoramas and more. It has been developed by the 3GPP and its major advantage is the provision of greater bandwidth and spectral efficiency, due to the W-CDMA technology. The Huawei Ascend Y550’s photos are quite fizzy-looking close-up, there’s a fair bit of purple fringing around areas of high light contrast and sharpness just isn’t all that good.

Even if verbal ratings in this area do not sound that bad ("sufficient" or "satisfactory"), they are usually euphemisms that disguise a classification as a below-average laptop. In general use the Huawei Ascend Y550’s battery life is very good too, tipping towards the two full days’ mark. Its look and feel is determined much more by the Y550’s custom EmotionUI interface than its version of Android, though. That's unlikely to be devastatingly rapid, but it should be enough for the sort of basic tasks a super-budget phone will be used for.
