About this deal

Mumbai-born Amish Tripathi gave up a highly successful career as a banker following the enormous success in India of his first book, The Immortals of Meluha, this was followed by The Secret of the Nagas and The Oath of the Vayuputras (jointly The Shiva Trilogy).

The book had to be re-printed for another 5,000 copies thrice within the next week, and by the end of July, it had sold around 45,000 copies across India. Many euphoric moments throughout the narrative, especially the episode when Neelkanth inspires the Suryavanshi army to believe in 'Har Har Mahadev' - each and every person is Mahadev. As Shiva spends time with the Meluhans, he finds that while the society of Meluha functions perfectly, it has its problems and erroneous ways too. In January 2015, Tripathi confirmed that the film adaptation was on-going and would have the biggest budget of any film series. The plot goes as Shiva being a mortal being, the chief of the Guna tribe who accepts the proposal of the Meluhans and come to the superficially near-perfect-but-deeply-flawed empire of Meluha created centuries earlier by Lord Ram. There he meets the priest from whom he comes to know about the karma, his fate, and his choices in life, which will guide him.

Pradip Bhattacharya from The Statesman felt that the "plot skips along at a brisk pace, the characters are well etched and the reader’s attention is not allowed to flag. Lord Shiva or then known as Shiva ends up going to Meluha and learning the ways of their civilization. This once proud empire and its Suryavanshi rulers face severe perils as its primary river, the revered Saraswati, is slowly drying to extinction. Doesn’t this child deserve to be a ruler less than a child born to another person who has the cleverness to be an effective ruler? My argument is that "Immortals" is but a story that may go down generations, while the original tales will die a slow death.

This is the first book in a trilogy on Shiva, the simple man whose karma recast him as our Mahadev, the God of Gods. Please don’t get me wrong, I’m not being a snob and saying only those who study literature come out as good authors. Sure we get a few seconds of music in the beginning and the end of fantasy audiobooks, but this, even shiva's footsteps are performed!

The intricate setup of the world and the political turmoil of Meluha paint a vivid picture of the era. The Kingdom of Meluha being the greatest Empire in the known world founded millennia ago and comprised of a society of immortals and a strictly hierarchical caste system form of community and governance set up centuries earlier by the august Lord Ram, but. It received a mixed review from Hindustan Times, where the reviewer was critical of Tripathi's usage of common, everyday language. However, the once proud empire and its Suryavanshi rulers face severe crisis as its primary river, Saraswati, was slowly drying to extinction.

A near perfect empire created many centuries earlier by Lord Ram, one of the greatest monarchs that ever lived. Ultimately when his agent decided to publish the book himself, Tripathi embarked on a promotional campaign. I had already read the entire series twice before as I can never miss out on any book written by Amish, but just listening to these books the way Manish has narrated it, had a deeper impact - I felt each word getting etched in my heart as if I will now, never forget these words.
