About this deal

The ability to turn the brightness down and even off entirely with the convenience of a remote is a godsend in these situations. Kicking our listening off with Bluetooth, we cue up Tidal’s Retroactive playlist on our iPad and find the youthful choir at the outset of The Rolling Stones’ You Can’t Always Get What You Want clear, tonally convincing, spacious and with a healthy dollop of detail. This will start your application with Klarna Retail Finance or V12 Retail Finance, our finance partners, and completing this form should take approximately 10 minutes. RCA, and more input options, the Kanto TUK Powered Bookshelf Speakers seamlessly connect to all your devices.

After a number of other selections on both vinyl and 1/4 inch tape, I moved to some digital selections. Notable is the new matte finish that matches the speakers and represents a step up from the somewhat tacky rubberized finish of their prior remotes. Digital inputs include TOSLINK and USB at the top while the analogue RCA line and Phono pre-amp inputs are just below. Even though I couldn’t really judge sound quality accurately in a non-controlled environment, I was impressed nevertheless. Kanto has supplied a USB connector for a computer, but we initially press the TUK’s volume knob to scroll through input options to Bluetooth, pairing easily with our iPad to run the speakers in.The integrated preamp eliminates the need for this, allowing you to plug your turntables directly into the speakers. However, the overall balance isn’t quite right; the bass registers are reticent and not nearly as stirring as they should be while the midrange lacks projection and solidity. One of the driving forces of the TUK speakers is the specialised AMT (Air Motion Transformer) tweeters. Plug all your equipment into your TV, switch between inputs, and let your TV pass audio to TUK using a single cable.

The removable speaker grills add another layer of protection so objects or curious hands can’t damage the aluminum woofer. CONNECT YOUR VINYL: Instead of a single, switchable RCA input, TUK features separate phono and line-level inputs to provide uninterrupted access to its built-in phono preamp. A song penned with perennial favorite Joni Mitchell, I find his version more to my liking than hers. It starts out with some very crisp and clear chimes, and each one is very clear and accurate on these speakers.

In my experience, connected to my Pixel 4 as opposed to through TOSLINK (utilising its internal DAC/AMP), Apt-X provided low enough latency to enjoy video content with minimal lip sync and range was easily adequate in my large room, with a rock-solid connection from a 10m line of sight distance. Once again, I’ll mention that the top end is just a tad bright out of the box, but you can turn that down a bit, so it isn’t really a negative, unless you count pressing a button a few times a negative.

Leland Sklar's tasty bass really adds texture to the track, it is all balanced, and again the soundstage is rather precise in the placement of the players. I was constantly amazed at the Tuks’ open, transparent, yet pinpoint and detailed sound with both Bluetooth and wired digital connections, and wondered how its headphone output would sound. Its active crossover further improves low-end resolution by filtering out sub-80Hz frequencies when connected to a subwoofer. This delivers a powerful sound performance, perfect for capturing each and every nuance from turntables.
