About this deal

by the great and good of the Discworld, full of Nanny Ogg's unique wisdom and way with words, and peppered with apoplectic notes from the editor and the publisher, this is a treasure trove of literary, culinary and comic delights. Terry's latest book, Nation, a non-Discworld standalone YA novel was published in October of 2008 and was an instant New York Times and London Times bestseller.

She's had 5 husbands and been married to three of them and has fifteen children who survived their early childhood (one was born some ten years after the death of her last husband). It’s not staying in the same place that’s the problem,’ said Nanny, ‘it’s not letting your mind wander. If you've made it as far as checking the reviews on Nanny Ogg's Cookbook, then you're probably nerdy enough to enjoy this small compendium of inside jokes for the well-versed Discworld fan. People go to Granny Weatherwax for help when they have no choice, but they go to Nanny for advice all the time. In any case, the result is that it is difficult to knock Nanny out by hitting her on the head, an option not often contemplated but attempted at least once (see Maskerade) - even having a house drop on her head has not knocked her out (see Witches Abroad ).No amount of charms could persuade a wart to take root on her handsome if slightly equine features, and vast intakes of sugar only served to give her boundless energy. Nanny Ogg is very funny and has a tremendous laugh that, as Terry Pratchett put it, "could even have embarrassed the little, wooden man". The first of these children's books, The Amazing Maurice and His Educated Rodents, won the Carnegie Medal. We’re the kind that give people what they know they really need, not what we think they ought to want. The Hedgehog Song" was probably borrowed from a Harry "Haywire Mac" McClintock song recorded in 1950 by Cook Records and American Folkways (available on iTunes).

In Lords and Ladies, Nanny Ogg claims her ancestors invented the Oggham language, although she might have been having one over on Casanunda; however, she is able to translate the Oggham above the door to the Elf King's realm as "I've got a great big tonker. when I was a young girl, a young man nearly threw himself off the Lancre Bridge because I spurned his advances. In his short story " The Sea and Little Fishes" Nanny Ogg also identifies herself, and the Ogg family as a whole, as having immense natural magical talent, but is less willing to work it as hard as Weatherwaxes do.

The fact that he had once chased a female wolf up a tree and seriously surprised a she-bear who had been innocently digging for roots didn’t stop her worrying that something bad might happen to him. Paul started working with Terry in 1993 and has designed the Discworld book jackets since 2002 following the death of artist Josh Kirby. She also has one single tooth left - Nanny eating a pickled onion with gusto is a sight not soon to be forgotten. She shares this home with Greebo, a tomcat of evil aroma and astonishing viciousness, whom she can see only as a fuzzy harmless kitten.
