I think Monto definitely showed the most character growth, and he actually became one of my favorite characters in the book. I wrote this novel because when it comes to WWII, Chinese and Asian involvement often stays on the periphery of history. Dr Ho and his wife Grace were true humanitarians who worried about the plight of others more than their own safety.

Two of the Ferali in the Trilogy are Tatts and Lily, both prisoners from the deepest level of the Maw, the Hole.
