2019 One Line A Day: A Five-Year Memory Book

Though it might not seem like much, writing just one sentence in my journal each day had a significant impact on me over time: It reawakened my love for writing. I'm hoping as the year progresses it holds together well enough, it'd be a shame if the spine starts to go and pages start falling out.

Whenever I noticed these writing redundancies, I could see they were emblematic of redundancies in my life, in general. A great way to easily recognise the extraordinary but recurring events that come into your life over time. The One-Line-a-Day Journal initially caught my eye in January 2017 because I thought writing just one sentence a day would be an easier habit to keep up and a good way to remember things from everyday life that I might otherwise forget. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. I have been keeping a ‘one line a day’ journal for more than three years now, and it has become a lovely, simple evening ritual.

By capturing a small snapshot in my journal of who I was every day for five years, I now have a time capsule that’s allowed me to really see and appreciate how much I’ve changed.Jot down ideas or highlights one page for every day and compare your entries to the same date in years past in this notebook. But when I started to review entries in the following months, I realized that I didn’t even usually remember the “bad days” that had taken up space in my journal. Designed with the idea of recording your daily thoughts over 5 years, a simple act that when complete will be sure to give you great pleasure to read over. Perhaps you met with a friend, had a meeting with colleagues, waved at a neighbour or exchanged comments on a social media post – think back to the ways you have connected with other people. I have never felt like there isn’t enough space to summarize what I want to that day and the layout is perfect for making it super easy to see what you did last year, 2,3,4 years ago etc.
