About this deal

There are only a few characters involved: Cameron Brodie, his daughter, the journalist, the whistle blower, the pathologist, the policeman and the hotel owner.

What follows is a story that take place in both 2051 and 2023 the changes in times were sometime jarring but once I got use to it I settled into the story. It wasn’t until now, with his own death imminent, that he had been moved, finally, to drag all the skeletons from the closet, and lay them out to be judged. Hailstorms flew out of the darkness like sparks, deflecting off the windscreen… He could barely see the road ahead of him, hail blowing around and drifting like snow on the recently cleared tarmac. Ferocious storms have become a frequent occurrence for the residents of Kinlochleven, resulting in power cuts and the loss of communications with the outside world for days at a time.Das Buch (englische Ausgabe) ist gut zu lesen, kann aber meiner Einschätzung nach nicht mit den Büchern der Enzo Files oder der China Thriller mithalten. A quarter of the world's population has been displaced by hunger and flooding, and immigration wars are breaking out around the globe as refugees pour into neighboring countries. A Winter Grave is the latest standalone thriller by prolific author Peter May, and it was intense, gritty, fast-paced and chilling (in both senses of the word! My thanks to Quercus Books for providing a copy of this book via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. I must have purchased this without reading the 'blurb', because its setting in the future took me completely by surprise.

Encased in ice inside an ice tunnel is a body of a man but how did he get here and what really happened to him. Someone is trying to conceal some extremely crucial information in this Highland village, something that cost George Younger his life. There’s humour although this rightly diminishes as danger levels rise, there’s plenty of tension, excitement accompanied by a building menace and peril. There are flashbacks to the present with climate change deniers and greedy industries where profits are placed ahead of the earth's health, and the population feels helpless midst scientific warnings. After a slightly rocky introduction, Brodie finds that he gets on quite well with police pathologist Dr Sita Roy, and both are relieved when their eVTOL (electric helicopter) sets them down safely during an ice storm, in the blacked-out village of Kinlochleven.Whilst parts of the world are suffering extreme heat, prompting the migration of millions of people from Africa and Asia to Europe, great swathes of Scotland are now under water due to rising sea levels caused by the melting of the Greenland ice sheets and the country now has the climate of northern Norway.
