Artisans does add some help to the AI in that they now will get points when adding workers to the guildhall. Or do you push your luck and keep squeezing more wood and stone out at the risk of making things even harder as the game drags on? When I played this game digitally, it became an almost instant purchase and was followed up by a rare five player game and a solo game!You see, workers often don’t go directly to prison; they are first taken captive by an opponent who then delivers them to prison – for a reward, of course. I don’t think I’ve seen anyone actually run out; but I have seen players collect up their own meeples from the board OR pay the hefty cost to retrieve their workers from other player’s boards. It so violently reminded me of Raiders of the North Sea that I thought I’d fallen for the board game equivalent of a Unity asset flip. Actions get more powerful the more workers there are, but why don’t you send more guys to begin with?
Once the Guildhall fills up to the start of the third and fourth row, this also triggers a Black Market Reset. He now enjoys playing worker placement, deck building, dice driven and coop games with his primary gaming partner, his wife. Do you want to go to the Profiteer to pocket the quick Influence, and then capture them back before the Black Market Reset to earn MORE Influence?It’s a fresh take on worker placement, building further on Raiders’ already stellar offering, and is able to boast the same elegance in design as its predecessor but with a snappier speed. There are parts of the game where you might feel like a dog chewing on an expensive but delicious pair of shoes. You get a certain way into the process and then realise ‘Oh yes, and there’s a lot of the game hidden in the cards and it’s written in a way that will be utterly unreadable to all of you.
Fall to low on it and you will gain negative end game point and not be welcome to help build the cathedral, but you will be able to pay less tax.
You have to discard 1x Building card (from your ha It means you can choose to take a different path to your rivals, or directly compete with them, which gives it the same feeling that Paladins and Viscounts carry through the rest of the series.
