About this deal

If you look at today’s report of new dissidence in Austria, you’ll see yet another example of the Modernist abuse of the Second Vatican Council. We have been a bold and influential voice in the church since 1888, standing up for traditional Catholic culture and values. In the light of negative reactions to the Anglican introduction of same-sex blessings, and the Vatican’s publication of Fiducia Supplicans lifting the prohibition of the same, a cynic might observe that many in the Church do not wish to exercise the freedoms that they are offered – or, more precisely, do not wish others to exercise those freedoms.

Askel McThurkill: If you have a problem, BOM, with anything on this forum, you can make your case on the thread and not here in the shout box. The ACP has been criticised by the conservative Catholics in The Irish Catholic and The Catholic World Report. The meeting, was attended by about 200 people and resulted in the establishment of a new lay organisation for Irish Catholics with an interim title of the "Association of Catholics in Ireland". So, here in Edinburgh, where the modern ecumenical movement was born, there was little mention of Church Unity this week -- or, at least, I didn't hear much mention of it. The new association committed itself to "the renewal of the Catholic faith in the changed and changing circumstances of the 21st century and to the reform of the institutional church which, at this time, is experiencing conflict, crisis and lack of credibility".The Irish Theological Association is putting on a day on Saturday, November 26th in All Hallows College on the New Missal. In November 2012, at a meeting attended by over 300 people, the objectives of the Association of Catholics in Ireland were formally approved. It was also suggested that, while the ACP “has won recognition as an alternative voice to the official church leadership and it has created a platform for real debate on reform issues”, this should be expanded. Isn't Roy Donovan's 'take' on all this reinforced by the 'Irish Catholic Vocations Office' which implies all over again that the merely baptised have opted for spectator status, to cheer from the sidelines as the ordained and the 'religious' - the 'consecrated' ones - do the truly risky and heroic work of 'following Christ'? Hans Peter Hurka, the leader of the We Are Church movement there, claims his group will conduct liturgical ceremonies in which lay persons act as priests.

In 2009, a group of priests and seminarians from the Episcopal Church and the Anglican Church of Canada gathered at Christ Church, New Haven, Connecticut, to form a North American province of the society, known as the Society of Catholic Priests in the Episcopal Church and the Anglican Church of Canada (often abbreviated SCP NA). When our schools have proven that if parents are tuned out of observance, Catholic faith formation doesn’t happen – and then the seminaries are empty – why the endless dithering over the problem of providing an adult initiating rite of affirmation of an infant baptism? Maybe he was more than just “happy” with the statement: indeed, David Quinn, of the Iona Community, former editor of the Irish Catholic, asked an interesting question “Did a priest angry at Rome [i.One scary feature of the case BTW is that Fr Reynolds was told by some people he approached that he shouldn't fight because RTE were just too powerful and would wear him down - exactly the position many abuse victims used to find themselves in when dealing with the church authorities. For many years I was involved in organising what became the main ecumenical service in Edinburgh during Church Unity Week due to my role in the Archdiocesan Ecumenical Commission which I chaired for over twenty years and, more latterly, as a member of the Council of Edinburgh Churches Together.

It was felt that "while the emergence of Pope Francis has created a positive and supportive context for the ACP in the wider church, the situation in Ireland is such that the ACP will not just need to continue with its work, but develop it further. In those dioceses it is about filling gaps and getting older men to look after more masses and placing bigger expectations on them. Membership in the SCP UK is open to all Anglican priests who accept the Anglican Communion as part of the "one, holy, catholic, and apostolic church", who recognise the ordination of women priests, believe in the real presence and who uphold the traditional view of the seven sacraments. However, we are reaching out to the Catholic community and readership, that has been so loyal to the Catholic Herald. An organisation which represents more than 850 priests in Ireland has been meeting to discuss the future direction of the Catholic Church. When our schools have proven that if parents are tuned out of observance, Catholic faith formation doesn't happen - and then the seminaries are empty - why the endless dithering over the problem of providing an adult initiating rite of affirmation of an infant baptism? When they spoke about ‘reform’ of the Church, they were not suggesting putting up for grabs the fundamentals of Catholic theology.

Gaza This October Monday, October 16th 2023 Hour by hourcountlessmunitions fallin an exchangeof fearsome fire. A major problem now is a reluctance in these two portions of the Body of Christ to grasp the opportunities presented to them by progress so far.I am so pleased to see mention of ecumenism on this site during this Week of Prayer for Christian Unity. Those with strong private theories and opinions have plenty of churches to choose from and, if they find none to their liking, they can always set up another. Indeed, it was only when Fr Flannery accused Mr Dooley of suggesting that he didn’t celebrate the Mass properly, that he realised he was a Catholic priest at all, since “he neither spoke nor dressed as someone who wished to be identified as a member of the clergy”. It said a teenage boy who had been sexually abused by Fr Brendan Smyth gave the names and addresses of other children who were at risk from the paedophile priest to Cardinal Brady, who at that time was a 36-year-old priest.
