About this deal

It has to be treated much like 'I, Partridge', if you've read it, if you haven't then that suggestion will be of no value to you.

Kuwait and Atlanta are about the same distance from London, and as Ayoade laments in the book, his family is unable to come with him. From the book we can gather that he has a brilliant line in self-deprecation, and is even more cineliterate than his two films so far might have suggested.Over ten brilliantly insightful and often erotic interviews, Ayoade examines Ayoade fully and without mercy, leading a breathless investigation into this once-in-a-generation visionary.

It's a parody of the film trade and deep philosophical films and directors, and I laughed all the way through. In 2010, Ayoade made his debut directorial feature, Submarine, a coming-of-age comedy-drama he adapted from Joe Dunthorne's 2008 novel of the same name. I realise it's supposed to be a spoof and the endless footnotes another witty idiosyncrasy, but my God it wore thin. Richard Ayoade takes celebrity introspection to the next level with a wickedly po-faced paean to his process .The taverna is the only place that Kostas and Defne can meet in secret, hidden beneath the blackened beams from which hang garlands of garlic and chilli peppers, creeping honeysuckle, and in the centre, growing through a cavity in the roof, a fig tree. You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. I still enjoy Ayoade as a comedian but feel that he is best employed in dialogue with someone else (and by someone else I mean an entirely different entity rather than playing himself against himself) who can break up the dry service of his incredibly witty but unvarying humor. Ayoade, the elusive filmmaker, has been tracked down by Ayoade, the author and maniac behind both personas.

In 2008, Ayoade won the award for an outstanding actor in a television comedy series at the Monte-Carlo Television Festival for his performance. Sure, it doesn't flag, provide too many missteps or outstay its welcome, but it starts in one measured furrow and hits the hedge having deviated little. The only faults I saw in this book was I didn't get a lot of the references to celebrities enough to enjoy the joke to it's full capability and I wish the middle portion was more like the 'Interview' with himself section as they were definitely my favourite parts.Richard Ayoade is many things – film director (of Submarine and the forthcoming The Double), comedy actor ( The IT Crowd), comedian and TV presenter ( Gadget Man). The cultural references in the book are generally about film, and perhaps a little hard to understand if you aren’t a big film buff.

Starting it I was quite amused by the tone and asides and pedantic stylings that are so familiar to Ayoade's comedy. In Love Is Not Enough, Mark’s first Audible Original, you’ll follow five real people over the course of six months as they navigate f--ked up romantic situations, ranging from dating app addiction to marital affairs to absurd fantasies.
