About this deal

She's safe there, it keeps her busy at all waking hours and leaves her little time to think of much else. I believe that, in general, the book manages to portray in a proper way the misfortunes, problems, and barriers that we have in the current job market, especially when it comes to young women, bringing very valuable and pertinent reflections on how to deal with these issues and validating feelings that often seem to be wrong, isolated and insignificant because they are not debated in an open and welcoming way in most spaces. Maybe it's my fault for reading so many books about lost 20-somethings (don't read into this too much) but this book felt like it had been done so. there’s also some great (and to me, very relatable) commentary on the class and financial inequities that come with working in the media industry, and also the struggle of being a working class 20-something living in london.

Daisy has woven an astute tale of ambition and its place in women's lives, putting words to feelings I've had for age.It is accepted by you that Daunt Books has no control over additional charges in relation to customs clearance. Will she wake up to the way she's being exploited before her protege realises that not everything is copy? She is working an unpaid internship at Panache magazine and whilst she is thankful for the opportunity, she is fed up of being given the shit jobs and earning no money whilst working pretty much full time. Her books include the novels Insatiable (longlisted for the CWIP prize) , Careering (as heard on BBC Sounds) and Limelight, and the non-fiction titles How To Be A Grown Up and The Sisterhood.

Hilarious, astute and full of human truths, Careering is a compelling and thoughtful read that every woman (and man) should have on their shelves. The book was at times humorous and at times spilled in to Bridget Jones territory, I’m thinking the Gentleman interview.

And I understand that as Imogen is a sex blogger, sex has to be a vital part of her story and personality, however, I think there were times when the theme was used a little too much, getting out of place in the story and even overshadowing previous events. The slightly cringeworthy humour put me off this to begin with, but I eventually fell into the main characters and their relatable dual storylines of extreme burnout, crushing creative self doubt, and the bubble burst realisation that your ‘dream job’ might not be such a dream after all. Will she wake up to the way she’s being exploited before her protégé realises that not everything is copy?
