The final track, Love Is All, is a far gentler piece as David exorts us that love is all that matters and, indeed, it does matter and if you find it then work hard for it, treasure and guard it as love is precious and vital to us all. With that husky, timeless tone of his, David Longdon appeals to us to heed the words: ‘ Love is the only thing that matters, Love is all, love is all. The Singer And The Song continues the autobiographical tone as this track is about how singing his songs enlivens and satisfies him. Birdsong, echoing piano and a building cinematic atmosphere characterise instrumental prelude Into The Icehouse, an Eno-esque mood-setter that, in a kinder world, might have served well as intro music to a live show. There's a suppleness to the instrumentation on Door One that is often missing in BBT’s meticulously crafted music.

David will certainly be missed but his legacy lives on in his recorded works and this album will certainly be a part of that legacy that he leaves us. But probably expected as the album was nearly completed [but were there other tracks that were still to be recorded? Thankfully, Big Big Train have chosen to continue, albeit in a different configuration and one that pays tribute to their deeply missed colleague. When David died, the challenging task of doing the final recording and mixing the record fell to David’s co-producer, Patrick Phillips.Accepting the change that has occurred and facing it bravely whilst keeping the memory alive, even though the loved one has gone.

The album closer, “Love Is All” feels like an emerging from the pain of Letting Go, and finding your place of calm. Nicely crafted tracks but a couple do seem to be that they are missing the final touches to the album. This album was completed carefully by four musicians: Jeremy Stacey (King Crimson, Eric Clapton, Noel Gallagher, Sheryl Crow, The Finn Brothers), Theo Travis (Steven Wilson, Soft Machine, Gong), Steve Vantsis (Fish) and Gary Bromham (Bjork, Sheryl Crow, George Michael).

Stacey is one of four main musicians featured, along with bassist Steve Vantsis, saxophonist Theo Travis and Longdon’s former band mate from Gift Horse, Gary Bronham who contributed many instruments to the album.
