About this deal

Had I known that a slight tolerance for ghosts, magic and over the top coincidences are required to enjoy The Keeper of Lost Things, I may have been hesitant to give it a try. Her lovely obsessive, compulsive nature and naivety combined with her sixth sense made her so lovable. Having said that, the group did enjoy Anthony's imagined stories for each lost item and found them very creative (the ones highlighted in the discussion were the jigsaw piece and the umbrella). Her own success is an inspiration within itself, as this authoress was older when her first book was published.

When I thought of The Keeper of Lost Things, I had in mind the imagination of Neil Gaiman, almost a fantasy point of view, where I could dream up a story for each of the lost items, go on an adventure with the characters. Laura, a young woman who is working for this Keeper of Lost Things since the day she spotted the want ad that Anthony Peardew had placed. Is anyone in the book group sure about the story, its construction, development, proportion of sound reason to logical fantasy? I often describe myself as a documentary junkie, and the more weird and wonderful the topic, the more it interests me. The story really begins to flow after the first forty pages and the pieces of the stories begin to connect. A charming, clever, and quietly moving debut novel of of endless possibilities and joyful discoveries that explores the promises we make and break, losing and finding ourselves, the objects that hold magic and meaning for our lives, and the surprising connections that bind us.

The wide ranging characters are what really makes the book, including the minor ones like the monstrous Portia and her ghastly novels. Accept the things to which fate binds you, and love the people with whom fate brings you together, but do so with all your heart.Ruth Hogan successfully intertwined a number of different stories, including a selection of short stories. I would have to wholeheartedly agree that this book definitely qualifies as one that motivates its readers to love and to cherish every moment. I studied English and Drama at Goldsmiths College, University of London where I hennaed my hair, wore dungarees and generally had an amazing time.
