About this deal

Its sturdy gold and onyx outer box -- adorned with an image of the One Ring on the front and a simple rune on the back -- is slightly oversized, but no so much that it will cause any problems for cinephiles with limited shelf space. Jackson who also wrote the script with fran walsh and philippa boyens has made Middle Earth accesible to millions of people, the books are considered classi and deservedly so but are hard for some people to get into and enjoy, here though the films allow us to be a part of Tolkeins legendary world and be thoroughly entertained.

I shall move on to discuss and dissect each individual movie’s presentation, including reference to the colour-timing issues which have themselves led to a massive internet debate. This is the next best thing to having been there when this film was made – and an extraordinary opportunity to see firsthand the talent and passion that brought Middle-earth to the screen. And while the ring has laid fairly dormant in the sixty years it resided in Bilbo's pocket, an evil stirring in Mordor has awoken the ring. What may be most amazing about this series — aside from its command of CGI effects; aside from its compelling characters and story; aside from the fabulous star-making performances of Viggo Mortensen and Orlando Bloom; aside from the great casting; aside from the beautiful New Zealand vistas shot by Andrew Lesnie; aside from the sheer spectacle of it all — is how Peter Jackson has made these films his own. Unfortunately Duncan developed terminal cancer, but he provided the inspiration for the Oscar-winning song "Into the West. It's also interesting to note that the commentators are at times a bit critical of his writing style, and are surprised that the thing was published at all.

Would I have ideally liked some of the audio commentary material and documentary footage to have been pooled into an elaborate, impressive Picture-in-Picture track?Cameras” is easily the set's best supplement — it's the one that covers the production of the third film, which features a lot of the cast and crew saddened by finishing the series (many of whom were involved with it for nearly a decade). On the bright side, there is one new extra thrown in, and it's even one that might appeal to the IGN audience, a preview of the upcoming video game The Lord of the Rings: The War in the North. Most of the commentarians have graced the previous sets — the lineups are nearly identical — giving a sense of continuity to the supplements. The Lord of the Rings: Special Extended Edition is a version of Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings film trilogy. Sure, there are still a few softer scenes, and DNR isn’t non-existent, as some facial close-ups will testify to, but, for the most part, what we now have is a video presentation which will please fans, rather than frustrate them (that is, apart from when it comes to the colour timing issues).

But fate smiled upon the tubby (at the time, at least) native, as he was given the reins to adapt the literary giant from famed author J.Disc Three offers “The Appendices, Part V — The War of the Ring” which starts with an introduction by Peter Jackson (2 min. That's the one thing that I hated about the DVD version was that you had to switch discs midway through the movie and have hoped they fixed it on the Blu-ray release even though I hear the blu-ray is also 2 disc. Well controversy once again rears its head in the extras section, although to a far lesser degree than that examined in the video section. After all, many fans will already know – from having trawled through the ‘Ring extra features – how much control filmmakers now have over colour timing, and how Jackson’s approach has always been to not just ‘make the whole movie more green’ but, indeed, change the tone of specific objects in scenes – greener grass, bluer skies etc. The result is a colorful, sublime presentation not seen since these films were in theaters, maybe not even then.
