About this deal

Button also doubles as a START button, meaning it is only possible to pause a game by pressing the pause button on the console itself. If I was planning to play an SMS marathon, maybe, or especially if I was trying to place in a highscore contest or something, i'd use a gen 6b pad for sure. The 103 third parties who use cookies on this service do so for their purposes of displaying and measuring personalized ads, generating audience insights, and developing and improving products. When I originally owned the Master System back in the day I used the control stick exclusively though, I still like to use it, I've just grown accustomed to pads.

The Dual Pause board has everything needed to control the pause button via two controllers and it installs on the bottom of the Master System mainboard with pads placed for easy wiring. The controller shares similarities with the Nintendo Entertainment System controller, including a rectangular box shape, two buttons and a D-pad. I can’t believe how cheap this kit is either, because it’s clearly good quality, and made by someone who loves the retro gaming hobby. If you’ve only played NES and never played a Sega Master System before and the controller has been the sole reason you’ve been put off, maybe now is the time. The D-Pad has a hole in the centre which allows for a small "thumbstick" to be inserted (much like Sega's earlier consoles). Next, the buttons on the Honey Bee are concave, rather than convex, much like the original NES controller most of us grew up on. To make sure it is really the cable that is at fault, you should use a multimeter in continuity mode, and measure between the end of the cable with the connector, and the respective points at the pcb:s. There are Sega Master System controllers with wires coming out of the right side, reminiscent of the Japanese Famicom controllers, Sega Master System controllers with a joystick style thumbstick, and controllers with wires coming out of the top. This impossible button combination is ignored in software and accepted by a logic gate which then grounds the console’s real pause button.

I found a Sega Genesis controller to be preferable (particularly ones that had a built in turbo feature), yet even that was not as enjoyable, and I didn’t like the mapping of the buttons to B and C rather than A and B.If this is something that bothers you, they do offer a custom 3D printed plate to cover them if you’d prefer. I got lucky, I guess, in that the system set I bought had 2 controllers that worked absolutely perfectly.
