But for Christopher Nye it was the perfect choice: a small town, but not too small; a town with a rising, young population that was literally crying out for an American-style Diner; a town without a McDonalds. From opening the restaurant through to food inspectors, competition from McDonald's and doing daft things for promotion, this is a great read. Chris Nye gets plenty of fun out of the deeply ordinary and is particularly good on the drink-fuelled undercurrent of malevolent violence which is rarely far below the surface in English country towns. Generous portions, the food isn't going to win any awards but was acceptable, perhaps a little expensive as some of the ingredients used are towards the lower end of the scale. this book deserves to be read by anyone who ever thought about running their own business - you will find it sobering but very amusing!The majority of pages are undamaged with some creasing or tearing, and pencil underlining of text, but this is minimal. Like many others I have very fond memories of good food and good times spent at the 'Max' - a trip to the cinema on Saturday afternoon wasn't complete without popping in for a burger or the massive Dime Sundae! Chris Nye, the author of the memoir and owner of the diner in question perfectly captures the spirit of the town as he depicts the troubles he had in getting his dream project, an American style Diner, from conception to operation in a small Sussex town that didn't yet have a McDonalds. We are a family friendly takeaway which specialises in a large variety of Pizza, Breakfast, delicious Charcoal Grills and Turkish cuisine, including tasty Doner and Chicken Kebab, Shish Kebabs and Kofte Kebabs, Combination Kebabs, a range of burgers, chicken nugget, Hash and Kids Meals.

Christopher currently lives in Lewes, where he works as a freelance journalist (oh alright, and as a taxi driver).and I'll have to remind myself to read it again if I ever think opening a restaurant is a sure fire way to make money.
