About this deal

It has been an delight to collaborate with Britta Teckentrup in bringing prints to life from her collection of interactive picture books: Neon Leon, Leap Frog and Firefly Home. The illustrations are nice and colourful however I'm not really sure about the message it gives to the reader. The London years 76/77 were financially sponsored by Mick Jagger and Rolling Stones and Neon Leon's band had lots of money to spend while they did concerts with blues-rock and reggae songs. Since 1993 Britta has written and illustrated over 120 picture books which have been translated into over 30 different languages.

This experience has been fantastic primarily for the children, the school and also for me (professionally). The story's resolution may give them hope that they, too, will find a community and/or group in which they will belong. There were plenty of rejections before my first picture book came out in 2001, but since then I have had lots more published. You guys were so fab and Dawn was such a lovely presence in the schools - I will absolutely be in touch next time I'm in your neck of the woods.

With that being said, the illustration is beautiful and the interactive aspect of the book would make for a fun read-aloud for younger elementary students. Indeed, as I mentioned in my review of Leap Frog, they remind me of the classic pictures by Eric Carle in the internationally acclaimed The Very Hungry Caterpillar or, less well-known, The Bad-Tempered Ladybird. It includes the scorching debut single “Rock ‘N’ Roll Is Alive”, originally released in 1979 on the tiny Big Deal Records. We havwe been receiving our storybook subscription for around 18 months and I can't see us stopping anytime soon.

I haven't charted out my visits for the summer term, but I'm sure there are several in the south) and thanks so much for being so fantastic! However I have had to totally change the story to remove what are, in my view, quite damaging themes. It was such a pleasure to meet you both, and I really appreciated how smoothly and professionally you ran everything. The title track is simply irresistible, laying down the filthy scuzz guitar tone dreams are made of, in one of the ‘most potent anthems of NYC punk’ ever caught on tape, right up there with “Max’s Kansas City” by Jayne County, and headed straight into your pleasure receptors. The two bands got along well and some years later Johnny Thunders helped Neon Leon and his band move to New York giving them a first place to live in when the hotels didn't.

and Battersea Dogs and Cats Home (created by Random House Children's Books and published by Red Fox.

Neon Leon is darling against all the contrasting backdrops and his story is the timeless message of finding a place where you fit in. Remembering no real first aid, just the dozens of times Mum applied battlefield triage on Brett… I put my finger down Ben’s throat. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. The story itself is simple but there’s still a satisfying resolution and a heart-warming conclusion about finding a friend and fitting in. He spots something over in the corner of the page, and walks very slowly (we count to 10 across the page) to a place where there are bright orange flowers, and, can we guess?

It also has a page where children are asked to count along with Leon, incorporating their mathematics counting skills! I read this out loud to my storytime group today, and it wasn't until I was faced with an audience that I decided I didn't like this nearly as much as I originally thought. We had free run of the neighbourhood and Brett would go haring off like a whippet, not seen again until he needed feeding and watering. The basic human need for acceptance contradicts the American fixation on radical individualism and the recent emphasis on self-acceptance.Also, the book has so many different approaches for kids learning systems that kind of snuck their way in- kind of like counting to ten before turning the page. She's also a children's poet, so she's thrilled to bits to have three new rhyming picture books with Nosy Crow. In 1995 had he a number one hit in Denmark with a reggae version of the Danish artist Kim Larsens classic song "This Is My Life".
