About this deal

She recounts her life from childhood, to teens, into adulthood through a mixture of short stories, spoken word, illustrations, and space for the reader to reflect (or draw tits… whatever you prefer).

This is the first book I have read by this author but it wont be my last it was such a nostalgic and poignant read that was more moving than I expected it to be, but that also had me laughing out loud at times. Manners cost nothing, her mother always said … yet there’s a fine line between diplomat and doormat. In fact, my friend Lilli and I have a running joke about the phrase “no worries if not”, we both use it far too much. Special thanks to Monica Heisey, Lynsey Wilson from Maclynn International, and Melissa Moore and Yotam Ophir from the University of Buffalo. We have to be so careful of how we speak to ourselves and even what we say out loud,” explains Ogunlesi.

What they seem to have overlooked is that Boomers fought for the equal rights subsequent generations now take for granted. I’m currently holding on for dear life and surely moments away from a gruesome death, so I will need confirmation on this ASAP as my demise is imminent. The pace of the book was mainly just right, however I found the flashback chapters interrupted the story unnecessarily. Also last week: I held a discussion thread about relationship doubts and got so many smart and thoughtful comments.

Mierne stagnujúci a predvídavý dej vyvážila perfektne ľudská hlavná hrdinka, ktorú som si veľmi obľúbila. But I think it’s also useful to understand how guessing can be a buffer against vulnerability, infringing on human connection and understanding, infantilizing us.A frank conversation on being queer and coming out, grief is discussed honestly and in a heartfelt way. However, the whole idea of not apologising didn't actually last very long as an idea in the story, it felt like this part of the story was more of an afterthought to the romance. But this experience has also taught me to try harder not to apologise; to remember that I have worth and I have experience that people need.

The present day narrative is interspersed with Charlotte's childhood diary excerpts, providing context about how and why she became a people-pleaser. She recounts her life from childhood, to teens, into adulthood through a mixture of short stories, spoken word, illustrations and space for the reader to reflect. When you add all those buffers into your sentence, you don’t build trust with the person you’re speaking to and, actually, potentially lose a bit of credibility in their eyes. Of course, the one event in her life that defies comedy is Luke’s tragic, totally unfair death at the age of 14. No Worries If Not is a memoir about growing up working class and queer, dealing with grief, and finding space for love and being yourself.

Featuring a vibrant rainbow design, and our super-sized Q logo, you won't find a more stylish way to make a statement. I do think there were some very interesting ideas that I wished were looked at in more detail: the idea of women not apologising for taking up space and existing, the idea of reporting unwanted and unwelcome advances from co-workers, especially senior co-workers using said advances to manipulate women and control their careers. Her feelings of guilt, an unrealistic desire to keep everyone happy and aversion to complaining about things were scarily accurate – after all women aren’t meant to make a fuss. A nostalgic trip down memory lane for me with the music of the year, but this is so much more than that.

I loved how the author used humour to cleverly get across many messages about the shit that women put up with. The kind of cushioning language I’d written in my tweet therefore makes me feel protected from that backlash. When she’s finished shouting about why he’s the rudest man she’s ever met, she realises, annoyingly, that not only is he the best looking man she’s ever had the misfortune to sit next to … he’s actually really nice about it all too. However, when Galustian begins to talk about grief, No Worries If Not is incredibly moving and real. She expertly balances humour with tragedy, taking you through the ups and downs of life with a raw honesty that tugs at your heartstrings. And then the crush, which was sold to us as a Great Love Story with A Great Guy, even though it was pure fantasy and Charlotte had just chapters previously personally She believes that while our confidence will continuously be challenged by setbacks and rejections, self-compassion will help us to bounce back. And it wasn’t because she agreed to go on a second date with the world’s most boring man to avoid hurting his feelings.
