The grip this installment had over me 💀 It’s such an intricately crafted story that contains multitudes. Some great fantasy books I’ve read recently include The Wolf and the Woodsman, She Who Became The Sun, Empire of Sand and Kingdom of Souls. But one of my biggest pet peeves is a fictional fantasy world that either doesn’t include LGBTQ+ characters or includes homophobia. I didn't think it was possible to love book 2 more than the first, but Jay Kristoff brought his A-game, leaving me speechless.
I’ve missed these for the past few months and so would like to get back to comparing covers (and hopefully I will be updating this page with a new banner. As a massive Jean-François fan, I was also not let down by his scenes, which are easily my favorite in the series. I don’t want to say too much more for fear of spoiling even the smallest detail, so I’ll just leave you with this: If thou art at all obsessed with vampires, A Game of Thrones, The Witcher, The Night King, or The Da Vinci Code (like me), start reading this series immediately. As I became more and more invested in the characters, the character’s flaws turned into something positive for the overall quality of the narrative.It was everything I was hoping for and you best believe I’m purchasing it the day it releases to finish it! But, I thought quietly and in my own space, Empire of the Vampire would be something I would enjoy privately without the promoting it to others.
The way Gabriel constantly says he’s a bastard or asshole, and then he wanted his chronicler to acknowledge this multiple times (which he did and Gabe was so proud of them) made me cringe and eye-rolled so hard. The relationship between Gabriel and Dior is a pleasure to behold as truths are laid bare and their bond flourishes as hearts are hardened against tearing cuts and bruises.
