He explained: “We have a distribution network set up in the States and we are ready to go. We’re hoping that our first shipments will go to the States this year. In January the company launched Gilt, a classic London dry gin flavoured with nine botanical plants, also for the ultra-premium market. With a solid focus on the use of the best grain and botanicals, Pincer is infused with the flavours of Wild Elderflower, and Milk Thistle. A lot of the Russians were very scornful but the reality is that they like vodka because it is the most readily-available spirit on the market. And Valt has set itself above the vodkas they were used to because of the flavour to it. Created using a quintuple micro-distillation technique, which is unique to Valt, Strathleven Distiller's flagship product has been quietly been making waves in the Scottish vodka scene.

Mr Christie, a former Speyside distillery managing director, said: "When we sat down and looked at our business plan we were quite modest in our aspirations because the sector of ultra-premium vodkas – we weren't thinking about gins then – is a small one. The vodka has been in production since 2006 and its unique recipe has been produced using a specially-designed bespoke copper still. With a focus on farm-to-bottle products, the distillery also released gin in addition to their vodkas. Eventually, the brand aims to release whisky in the years to come. But first expect a third vodka to drop in the spring of 2018. Christie first launched Valt in the UK but it is now also available in Germany, Italy, Austria, Spain, Malta, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Latvia and Poland. It can also be found in Thailand, Taiwan, Singapore and Jakarta but the brand has yet to conquer the biggest and toughest spirits market, the United States of America.
