About this deal

Listen. Listen. I'm a Pepper Winters whore, okay? I will read whatever she writes, even if it's a damn Twilight fanfiction (please don't). So I don't know what's up with me and this series. I truly don't. Welcome to a world made dangerous by the sea and by those who wish to profit from it. Where a young girl must find her place and her family while trying to survive in a world built for men."

Heather, Pal and friends set off to rescue children who have been taken to this threatening underworld. No child will be forgotten on their watch. Heather and friends realise they have been specially chosen for this quest. They must use the talents they've been given in the battle to save Fablehouse and all the children who have found shelter there. E.L. has a wonderful touch with atmosphere, painting the hazy, sunny days above ground and the claustrophobic, terrifying land below with equal skill. The growth of the children was wonderful to watch. I love that, although this is the first of a series, it's not a cliffhanger; there's a couple of obvious hooks for the next one, and I probably missed some less obvious ones, but a reader could stop at this one and not feel that they were missing too much. The author is planning a sequel to this lovely novel, and I am so glad. She has created a wonderful cast of characters who deserve to have their story expanded even more. The book is a glorious mix of adventure, fantasy, social history and Arthurian legend, and I am already looking forward to the Roamers' next adventure! I fell right in love with each member of the Marigold crew! This journey was not the best or safest journey and there were a few rough things that happen. She dismisses the idea that diving into literature provided an ‘escape’ from the topsy-turvy life she’s endured but as people flitted in and out of her life at a young age, reading offered another way to garner perspective on life, which was a world away from the dour everyday occurrences in Cardiff.Fable by Adrienne Young, is a Young Adult novel with a unique setting. Unlike most YA books that I've read before, which are set in a Palace or a war zone, this one is set on a ship. Unfortunately, that's where my praise ends, because besides the different setting, there was nothing else about it that I liked. Fable: Our protagonist is a wild and unyielding tempest, a brutal girl unconcerned with looks or riches and more concerned with staying alive, swallowing the sea, and most importantly, finding a place to belong. She is lost and unmoored, wandering since the night her life changed, ripped apart so thoroughly when even her father abandoned her in his cursed attempt to save her from himself and his deadly life. That is a father who shaped her despite not being by her side. Because the world he left Fable in, and the rules and expectations of this man whose shadow always loomed over her, are why she became the selfish bastard that she is, enough of a cutthroat businesswoman to use what and who she has to to survive without showing weakness—really, her pride would not even let her. This book was ok. I had higher expectations because of the hype, but it disappointed me. I’m not 100% happy with it, nor am I really invested in anything that much.

And of course, the writing. The book had poetic writing that captured me through and through. I couldn't stop reading, no matter how much I wanted to, at times. A powerful and important book, bursting with hope and wonder. Fablehouse is a glorious celebration of friendship ' - Tola Okogwu, author of Onyeka and the Academy of the Sun The Hero: Kassen - he lives alone in the mansion, formerly called “Fables”. Kassen is a tortured soul who has buried his memories of a terrible past deep behind a wall within his mind. However, that wall has been breaking down more than ever and after capturing Gemma in his house, his walls seem paper thin. She's weathered storms, thieves and starvation until she finally saved up enough for passage off of the island. OMG. I don't think there exists any other author who can give me the perfect mixture of Darkness and Angst like pepper can. I spent the last night reading this book with my heart clenched in pain and tears streaming down my cheeks. Kas and Gemma have a tale that will haunt you forever just like it haunts me. In this story of hope and endurance, we follow a scientist and her team during their search for the elusive 'Giant Arctic Jellyfish'.

Hahah! I don’t plan in the first place, so I don’t have a Plan B. I guess I’d ask work if they could take me on for more days. Not a very imaginative answer, but the realistic one. Stories and characters are how I make sense of my life and the world around us and I’m interested in so much. I’ve been writing on and off since I was ten. So, anyone paying me anything for my words is a literal dream come true. If it all goes away tomorrow? I’d still write because I have to; with writing there is always more to learn. Different age groups, forms, genres – the possibilities are endless. West is the character who is supposed to be the 'love interest'. The only trait I spotted in him was the constant 'clenching of his jaw/fist/teeth'. He gets angry a lot of times, and I guess he is smart but that's all there is to West. No child will be forgotten on their watch. Heather and friends realise they have been specially chosen for this quest. I loved learning more about his time spent with the only family he connected with, the family he saved, the family he loved unconditionally even if it had mean't putting himself in harm's way broke my heart imagining everything he'd endured alone.

Format

There are some light magical elements to this that I hope are built out a bit more in the second book. Fable's ability at reading gems is unique and I want to know more. I absolutely fell into this beautiful book - it's the perfect book to curl up with on a dreamy, sunny afternoon! Hence Gemma becomes a victim, a slave, a prisoner in his tight clutches because she has turned his world into a volatile Topsy turvy. This company starved, lonely man sees aa hum a and ND now wants to hold it close to him forever. The fractured Beauty & the Beast love saga continues, but I wasn’t prepared for the extremes of this emotional rollercoaster. Gem’s caring stirs crippling emotions in unstable Kas, as well as resurfacing horrific memories of his past at Fables. The sadistic depravity and cruelty of it gutted me as much as their conflicted intimacy. There’s more to learn about his “family” of others at the mansion that made him afraid to love and the reason he never left, but she’s more afraid to let go of trying to save him and reach his heart. Gem leans in, but Kas leans away. Despite her attempts to draw him out, he resists for her sake and hides his love to protect her from him in a beautifully twisted way. My heart shredded for them.
