The table has a hardwearing steel frame which is stronger than aluminium for greater structural stability. Its steel fame allows it to comfortably support an impressive 30kg load capacity. The table top itself consists of a series of connected aluminium slats which unfold and then clip directly to the base leaving very small gaps in between the slats – this means the top works well for supporting plates and glasses, but you could not use it to write on very easily. However, we don’t expect many people do much writing when camping! The table has a pre-connected slatted aluminium top. Simply roll the top out onto the frame, then secure it into place using the sliding frame supports for optimal strength and stability. But it’s the bamboo which is the star of the show here. It provides a highly stable surface with a real quality feel. Please bear in mind though that this is more of a side table and is probably not large enough to eat around unless there’s just a couple of you. Setting the Navaris Bamboo up is easy – simply unfold the table top so that it is upside down, with the underside facing upwards.

We should emphasize the beauty of the Japanese bamboo used for the tabletop. It is sublime and exceptionally smooth but with a lovely grain. The bamboo sections fit together really well with very minimal grooves in between them. This is a massive difference to some of the aluminium options we recommend below which tend to have bigger gaps. Bamboo wood is fairly unique in that it has the look of tree wood but is made from grass. As such it does not warp or shrink when the humidity of the surroundings changes. If you’re the former, you might be interested in a burly option like the Go Plus Slim Fold or Master Kitchen Table. If you’re the latter, you might want a great budget option like the Coleman Compact or Lifetime Folding Table. When in doubt, we’d argue for quality that will last you over a cheap option, but we leave that to your own prerogatives. How many people do you camp with? While the sturdy plastic hard top is great for meal prep and cleaning, it didn’t give us the ability to cook on top of the space with a grill or stove. We were a little concerned about just having three fairly flimsy-looking legs to support the table but found that it is extremely stable in use.Key specs (2 cupholders): Dimensions: 56 x 43 x 39 cm / Folded dimensions: 60cm x 7 cm / Weight: 1.2 kg There are two pairs of legs which open outwards away from each other in a U shape, and the height of these legs can be switched between two settings. One thing we did notice is that there is a spring-loaded pin which requires pushing in to change the height of the legs, and this can easily catch the skin on your thumb as you press it. Probably the only negative about this table, and only a minor problem at that. Summing up The aluminum countertop withstood a camp stove easily, although we would have liked the side tables to be made of the same material at times. (Juggling several hot pans and pots when cooking for 6+ people would have been easier with a place to put the pans that wasn’t plastic.) However, when taking on an ambitious meal like steak and risotto or biscuits and gravy for 6 folks, the four plastic side tables were nothing short of miraculously helpful.
