What it is: A super sheer, 100-percent non-nano zinc SPF 30 sunscreen that protects and hydrates even the most sensitive skin. While the ingredient list does contain several ingredients I can’t pronounce or spell – Methyl Dihydroabietate, Polyglyceryl-3 Polyricinoleate, Ethylhexylglycerin – that in the case of the first and last ones, appear to be potential allergens or irritants, overall the ingredient list is short and doesn’t include parabens, chemical blocks, silicones, or oils. The Biossance Squalane + Zinc Sheer Mineral Sunscreen is officially the only sunscreen I'll ever wear again. With that in mind, BIOSSANCE'ssqualane is derived from sugarcane and has been created to deliver up to forty times more active ingredients that penetrate deeper than other formulas. It's a physical (or inorganic) sunscreen that has a lot in common with fellow inorganic sunscreen Titanium Dioxide (TiO2) but a couple of things make it superior even to TiO2. I would still opt for a more aggressive, higher SPF formula for sports or extended sun exposure type activities, but for when you just need a little bit of coverage, this is a nice option. So all in all, this is actually one of the best mineral sunscreens I've tried to date, and the fact that it's readily available via Sephora is a big plus as well. However one type of alcohols, simple alcohols can be quite drying to the skin because it evaporates very quickly. An emollient and natural moisturizer that can be found also in the sebum (oily stuff our skin produces). one thing to point out though - it is harder to apply makeup over top of it (wasn't as smooth as it normally is) and leaves it looking a bit cakey after a few hours.
