Piet van Leijenhorst, Master Distiller at Lucas Bols is an expert when it comes to the traditional Dutch spirit Genever. The General Wine Company sources wines from all over the world, but with a particular focus on small, independent producers. They appear in a wide variety of cocktails and can be mixed with other drinks or used in baking – there’s a reason that the sweeter varieties have become staples in many classic desserts!

Upon discovering that the spirit has such a powerful flavour, i tried splitting it with other gins as a base in some cocktails.

Bols Genever Amsterdam Gin is a characterful and unique combination of re-distilled botanicals and refined with pure grain alcohol. They couldn't easily find it, because at the time it was only being sold in the Netherlands and Belgium. Bols Genever won Double Gold and Best of Show during the Wine and Spirits Wholesalers of America convention 2018 and presented with the Best Dutch Genever Award during the World Best Gin competition 2018.
