About this deal

Why: my dd is getting married this summer and I'm trying to read all of the interesting books on her shelf before she cleans out her possessions and moves far away. From what I’ve been able to piece together, I stopped crying as an infant because I would get smothered, hit or pinched. He admits in the book that most people wouldn't believe what he had been through, because it was unbelievable. He is 11 1/2 so puberty may be something to do with it but his emotional resilience has disappeared.

There are (at least) two Joe Peters represented by the assortment of books that Goodreads has assigned to the name "Joe Peters. Joe's is the ultimate insider's story, casting light into the darkest of hidden worlds, and a truly inspirational account of how one small boy found the strength to overcome almost impossible odds and become a remarkable man.I'm the girl who goes into the bathroom to cry the tears I've held back for so long and then walk out like nothing ever happened. If you’re not out enjoying the weather, or watching some football, there’s plenty of good stuff to read and think about. More immediately, I read it because my husband had to work late yesterday, so I took the boys to meet their friends in Havelock and after I dropped them off I went to the library (because I don't often go to that branch) and the first book in her Harper Connelly series was checked in and on the shelf. Since we’re traveling to visit family I’m going to have to just look forward to reading it when I’m back home.

Cry Silent Tears is a difficult book to read because it’s so hard to accept that a child was treated with such cruelty and abuse for years by his own family. I admire Peters for coming out with his story, and I respect him for being able to describe those who abused and betrayed him without becoming incoherent with rage. I give myself a little pinch to remind myself that this now is nothing, it’s short term and we will find a normality, it’s just that it might take time. This only leads those that are supposed to care for him and love him to hurt him more because he is unable to tell anyone. Like many others, I'd liked for those monsters to pay for what they did, but I guess unless you've been under such circumstances, we can't possibly get what was going on inside Joe not to do so. I'm aghast (but perversely enjoying the all-too-accurate account of a totally self-absorbed 14-year-old). I would do as you're doing, look for patterns and maybe try to avoid situations that trigger it - but then again it does sound fairly unpredictable.

People worried about their health demanded that they stop and, without the beef fat, the flavor is subpar. I didn't like it as well as the Sookie novels, but I'll check out the next in the series when I have a chance. It's not easy to read this book knowing this all really happened, but it was definitely an eye opener for me. Andrew Crofts has helped another Brit male abuse survivor, Joe Peters, complete his first memoir, Cry Silent Tears.

Love the saddest parts of me that have grown wilted flowers and water them so that they may bloom again. I’m not sure I’m glad I shared it, but I think it kinda feels good…if I wasn’t so numb and going away. I also had to look like I wasn't crying so even when the tears start uncontrollably, I can stop them instantly with any slight distraction. Miss Hearts is definitely an interesting individual with an interesting personality, I hope you enjoy this!
