About this deal

No one thinks a seventeen year old girl can take on the hard men of London's gangland, but its a mistake to underestimate Maura Ryan: she's tough, clever and beautiful - and she's determined that nothing will stand in her way. This focused on the role of girls in these gangs, which have been responsible for crimes ranging from drug dealing and car theft to robbery and murder. At first they are found unscathed, but when one meets a dark end DI Kate Burrows knows the clock is ticking. A stage version of Dangerous Lady opened at the Theatre Royal Stratford East, London, [2] her third to be presented at the Royal Stratford, to positive reviews. It’s an amazing look at how the influence of family and society can shape a girl from toddler through to teen and adulthood.

When I was a teenager, but I still greatly think of this book and I'll never read it again, because I want to keep it perfect in my memory just as well as I keep Diogenes Alejandro Xenos (Dax) from Robbins' 'The Adventures' untouched in my childhood memories. I was given a storyline better suited to that of The Godfather in terms of length and details into the lives of Moira’s family. For me it was far too much romance and ‘Eastenders like drama’ for it to be classed as crime fiction. As ‘predictable’ she couldn’t handle being a woman in a mans world and needed a man to look after her and save the day.A four-part TV adaptation of Dangerous Lady was broadcast on ITV in 1995, and in 1998 ITV broadcast a four-part adaptation of The Jump. Several of Martina's novels have been adapted for the screen, including The Take and The Runaway which were shown on Sky 1 to remarkable reviews.

She is the bestselling author of fourteen novels set in London's gangland, and her most recent three paperbacks have gone straight to No. For further information about your statutory rights, contact your local authority Trading Standards department or consumer advice centre (for example the Citizen's Advice Bureau if you are in the UK). I managed to read it all the way through but gradually becoming more and more amazed at it's popularity - characters ok, story aspects ranging from poor to ok, dialogue barely ok, For me two things make a book good - do I want to read to the end and does it make me think. I did find many similarities in this novel to Betrayal with the character of Aiden being cut from the same cloth as Michael but in this novel I found it easier to sympathise with both Maura and Michael, though both characters are at times incredibly violent and terrifying their softer sides make them far more rounded and complex characters. Her mother was a psychiatric nurse from Glasnevin, County Dublin and her father was a merchant seaman from Cork City. This idea is further highlighted by the character of William Templeton ad the various corrupt police on the Ryan’s payroll – all of which came from better backgrounds than Maura and Michael who it could be argued only entered into a life of crime due to circumstances. Cole gets right into the heart of London West End, the gangs, the drugs, the family ties, the values. The story is mainly about Maura and how she transformed from being an innocent girl to being one of the toughest criminals in England .

Cole also provides so much social commentary on 1950s and 1960s culture, in particular choice on abortion and the consequences of arranging a marriage on the foundation of pregnancy in the characters of Roy and Janine. The endless details of insignificant acts or the sudden backstory of a character that paragraphs later would be wiped from the story only added to the long drawn out nothingness that this book built towards.Once you’re hooked on Maura Ryan, be sure to read MAURA’S GAME , the second book from ‘the undisputed queen of crime writing’ ( Guardian).

He knew nothing of 'his' baby she was carrying and then had a horrific abortion which lead to her being hospitalized and no longer being able to have kids. The 'Family' as they are seem 'real' and you can think of yourself as being in the thick of all the incidents that occur. I remember when I was a young Harry Potter obsessed whippersnapper when my sister first purchased and read this book which would’ve been around 2004, which was unusual for my sister at that time. She confides in her mother about her pregnancy and afraid of her being a single parent, Sarah arranges for a backstreet abortion (as abortion was still illegal in the UK at the time) who scrapes the baby out of Maura but the botched operation results in Maura’s ovaries becoming infected and removed so she can never have children again. This is as much about sibling loyalty and rivalry as it is about crime, and it's all very well done. An ok read if you like MC, again very much like most of her other novels; the Irish Catholic IRA connection, the young man wanting to be a face, the sexual element and the strong female lead. When it comes to the crunch, Maura has to face the pain of lost love in her past —and the dangerous lady discovers her heart is not made entirely of stone. Wrote very well and kept my interest from start to finish, luckily had Maura’s Game ready and waiting for when I finished Dangerous Lady.
