About this deal

She became famous following the posthumous publication of her Nature Notes for 1906, in facsimile form, as the book The Country Diary of an Edwardian Lady in 1977, which was an enormous publishing success. I have wanted to read Edith Holden’s The Country Diary of an Edwardian Lady for many years now, after seeing some effusive reviews before I had even entered the world of blogging about literature.

This fantastic pack contains six double sided book pages from "The Country Diary of an Edwardian Lady" by Edith Holden. I try to choose flora and objects (both faux and actual) to at least partially echo those depicted in the illustrations. I've enjoyed reading the spring entries, comparing and contrasting her early English spring to my delayed American Northwoods one.Finance is provided by PayPal Credit (a trading name of PayPal UK Ltd, Whittaker House, Whittaker Avenue, Richmond-Upon-Thames, Surrey, United Kingdom, TW9 1EH). Lavishly illustrated with Edith Holden's superb watercolour drawings and packed with information on the fauna and flora of over a hundred years ago. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Edith Holden was born at Kings Norton, Worcester, in 1871, one of seven children of a Midlands paint manufacturer. While reading this book from cover to cover may feel a bit dry, the watercolor sketches are a delight to look upon.

It was not until the next morning that he learned that her body had been found at six o'clock on the Tuesday morning. The main subject at breakfast had been the impending visit of some friends for Easter, to which Edith was looking forward. After attending art school, she worked as an illustrator, with her drawings being published in several books. Edith Holden’s handwritten works, including her favourite poems, personal thoughts and observations on the wildlife surrounding her Warwickshire home are exquisitely illustrated by beautiful paintings on very page of flora and fauna of the countryside through the seasons.Presented to retain the charm and beauty of the original volume filled with Holden’s hand-drawn illustrations of the English countryside’s flora and fauna through the changing seasons of the year, as well as handwritten notes, observations, and quotations, The Country Diary of an Edwardian Lady makes a lovely addition to any home’s library or side table. Online marketplace for hard-to-find antiquarian books, treasured collections, wonderfully illustrated prints, and special antique finds. The facsimile reproduction of Edith Holden's naturalist's diary for the year 1906 sold over one million copies in its first year and held the record number of appearances in bestseller lists for 15 years.
