Purchases are delivered in a unique black box tied with a white ribbon, with the exception of perfumes and candles. It really does look kind of like a square ink bottle sitting on my desk, and the chunky, weighty glass is satisfying to heft in the hand. I can’t say yet that vetiver is my favourite note but I’m fascinated by its multiple facets and I’m slowly working through perfumes which highlight the different facets.

More powerful, richer and even more voluptuous, the woody intensity of this fragrance reveals a fascinating new side of the Encre Noire man’s personality…manly and sensual. I’ve heard that letting Encre Noire sit and revisiting it in cooler weather can do it good, but I’ve tried both and had no luck. This can be quite strong when first sprayed which can be quite overwhelming however this calms down within 15 minutes or so to it’s true level.Encre Noir is insanely inexpensive, especially for a scent which nears niche territory in terms of uniqueness and the quality of ingredients.

I give myself a generous few sprays of Encre Noire a L’Extreme, it is always the absolute perfect choice for days like this, there’s something, deeply solemn and moody, yet remarkably grounding about it. They must have reasoned that the ladies need fruit and flowers, and Encre Noire was refashioned by perfumer Christine Nagel as a soft musky scent.It lasts quite a bit, doesnt project a lot but nevertheless for the cost as a daily fragrance you get an amazing scent. A l'Extreme is effectively the same scent as the OG with a few additions which serve two purposes: To create a more well-rounded, base-heavy scent, and to clash painfully with the original vetiver. After that I tried 40 knots expecting to find a new versatile scent to wear to the office and spent the rest of that day wanting to scrub it clean from my body. I've been seeing Encre Noire pop up in forums and the perfume-o-sphere for a long time and had always dismissed it.

A very good turn is that this one could be worn day and night occasions, probably all year long, excluding just a few very hot days. First, because the similarities are close enough that the Lalique fragrance does give me some of what I love about Sycomore, and thus I can use it as a substitute at least sometimes, which allows me to save the Sycomore for special occasions. Rather than surrounding and supporting and blending the smoky vetiver-cypress accord like Sycomore, ENALE doubles down on it. Hence if you've experienced that afer release, and you know it could last longer and project more, don't bother.

At first I get a really pleasant and strong wood smell, followed shortly after by a slightly chocolatey and nutty smell (idk if anyone else gets that). I spray it on my wrist at night whilst watching Cadfael and enjoy sniffing it off my wrist for 30 minutes before it disappears.

This smell complements mowing a lawn or chopping wood so well, it's an intense lumberjack kind of scent.So my opinion is that here L’Extreme may not necessarily indicate stronger but deeper complexity in notes and development. This is like black pen ink sprinkled with fresh cypress twigs, and, though it’s quite faint on me, it’s a pleasure. It seems like they were just trying to make the OG EN more mass-appealing but instead made it boring and not as memorable imo. I’d like to find a more austere and dry vetiver to wear when I am working, Guerlainś vetiver is almost-right for me… it sounds like I need to try this!
