About this deal

Anna Karenina comes to mind - but this is an easier read and a kinder, warmer, more optimistic portrayal of life and humanity. But parts of it dragged and it felt to long, I kept checking my kindle to see how far through I was which is never a good sign. I think prologues really help set up a story so I awarded bonus points for its inclusion in this book. It was such a finely balanced novel, with lots of darkness but also the beauty of art, food, music and of course, love!

Eberlen makes the move from Mantle, which published her most recent book Only You in 2020 and won a seven-way auction for Miss You in 2015. Anna Karenina comes to mind - but this is an easier read and a warmer, more optimistic portrayal of life and humanity. After many readers asked me what happened to Tess and Gus, I decided to explore whether it would really be possible for characters with such different backgrounds and challenges to live happily ever after. A captivating story about love…at times heartbreaking and at others uplifting… and an ending that is as poignant as it is perfect. You know it’s a good novel when you have to immediately flick back to the beginning to reread some bits to help you process the ending, which is exactly what I had to do!Towards the end of the novel, emotions intensify for the reader, especially for those who have perhaps experienced cancer in their own lives. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. I was not expecting this book to be so deep and interesting so I was pleasantly surprised and impressed at how well the author dealt with complicated relationship dynamics.

Strictly Come Dancing is back on our screens, which means weekends full of sequins, glitterballs and a little cha cha cha. This is something that I am always drawn to in romantic fiction and something I will never tire of reading about. Lucas is also handling translation and screen rights and US rights are being handled by Jessica Purdue at Orion Books. Set between London and Italy across many years, this is the complex love story of Tess and Gus, who have to overcome so many differences and outside forces to be together, but who seem to somehow be fated. Gorgeous cover and can’t wait to share more and acquire this for ou4 branch, thinking of making this a book club pick as well!

It was unpredictable what was going to happen with the relationship, knowing it may not be the happily ever after for the characters and that’s what had me racing through the pages and not wanting to put this down.
