She slept with her 10 year-old brother and at thirteen, she molested him, and incest with her father was also likely. It only gets worse as while Fred was in prison for theft, Rose killed his seven year-old daughter from his first wife.Yet earlier on he goes to some lengths to explain why this was actually the perfect spot for a serial killer, “used by a transient population of college students, the unemployed and psychiatric patients who had been released from the decommissioned Coney Hill mental hospital. Fred is known to have committed at least two murders on his own; Rose is known to have murdered Fred's stepdaughter, Charmaine. Rose occasionally sexually abused Anna Marie herself, and later took extreme gratification in degrading her with acts such as binding Anna Marie to various items of furniture before encouraging Fred to rape her, and forcing her to perform household chores while wearing sexual devices and a mini-skirt. Perhaps, being a serious journalist doesn't make it easy to switch to the more engrossing style needed in a true crime book. Chapter 2 and 3 were highlights for me, learing about the childhood of both Fred and Rose, the detail and construction was rather good, and the actual content was quite fascinating. On another occasion, Rose became furious about a missing kitchen utensil, then grabbed a knife she had been using to cut a slab of meat, repeatedly inflicting light scour marks to Mae's chest until her rib cage was covered with light knife wounds.She was never reported missing, but her dismembered remains were found buried at the edge of a cornfield between Much Marcle and Kempley in June 1994.
