About this deal

Our team will always keep you informed on the progress of your request and will go above and beyond to offer you personalized solutions. Back in the day, Gigli found himself working out of a studio on East 58th Street in the heart of Manhattan. He graduated from the School of Modern Photography in 1942 and served in the Navy as a photographer during World War 2. Ormond Gigli had a rich career and went on to produce great fashion based photograph, celebrity work, product campaigns, motion picture promotional images, and had his pictures generously reproduced in many of the leading magazines over 30 years.

The collection reflects and communicates the adventures and enthusiastic vision of HBC through various themes and media. The photograph did not become commercially available until 1994, when Sue Ellen Gigli offered it to a gallery. He painted his most famous work, Guernica (1937), in response to the Spanish Civil War; the totemic grisaille canvas remains a definitive work of anti-war art.

Yet, the pièce de résistance of Gigli's illustrious career is the iconic photograph known as "Girls in the Windows," taken in 1960. The image is offered at galleries around the world — in New York, Los Angeles, Palm Beach, Cleveland, Atlanta, Boston, Santa Fe, London, Paris and, until the invasion of Ukraine, Moscow. On the other hand by Artsper which selects its partner galleries according to the quality of their catalog and their reputation.
