There's absolutely nothing in here that a religious person would find objectionable, but it's nice to see the mysterious unknowns in the universe answered with "I don't know", "no one knows", or "we can't know" but isn't it beautiful? Young children are often full of questions and this clever picture book celebrates the inquisitive nature of kids by posing a series of thoughtful questions. Born with a terrible facial abnormality, Auggie has been home-schooled by his parents his whole life.Jack reconciles with Auggie, but is ostracized from his popular classmates, as Julian's influence divides the students into factions over the conflict. The story is also told from the perspective of other characters, providing glimpses into their own behaviour and exploring the impact our actions can have on others. So disappointing as the female narrator is American, not easy to listen to, has a somewhat condescending tone and does not capture the spirit of the story so well as the English narrator.
When children are embarrassed or afraid of not knowing, they are preoccupied with escaping their discomfort, rather than being motivated to learn. I realized that she had grown accustomed to being celebrated every time she answered a question correctly and was, naturally, less interested in exchanges that didn’t produce this response. It would make a great bedtime read (the questions kinda end with that 'good night' feel) or as a writing prompt for a young elementary school class.
These cards show a goal that must be achieved to proceed and explain how the players' and enemies' turns take place. Many of the questions in this book begin with, "I wonder," and the book ends with the statement, "You are wonderful.
