About this deal

The new chef has sacked everyone and Louise, Meg’s mother, needs her daughter’s help, and she needs it NOW. Unauthorised use and/or duplication of material contained on this site without express and written permission from this site’s author and owner is strictly prohibited.

Meg falls in love with the hotel, despite the fact it needs some work doing on it, none of the rooms have bathrooms, the decor is dated. I am rather pleased that she gives you a glimpse of the professional kitchen too, as it is quite different from that of a country house hotel. This is not high quality literature, but if you’re after slow, predictable love and a cheery can do attitude that saves a stately home then you’re in the right place!Read more about the condition New: A new, unread, unused book in perfect condition with no missing or damaged pages. With the assistance of some of the locals and a long-term resident of the hotel, Meg manages to make a good start on preparing the meal, substituting some of the former chef's packet ingredients for more season-appropriate fresh ingredients from the extensive kitchen gardens. As I've said in my reviews of the previous books in this 'series', the historical setting works well for Katie Fforde's genre of romance which almost always features an artistic, slightly virginal (ie either a virgin or only ever had one lover, possible a deceased husband) young woman, and a taciturn man who turns out to have been secretly in love with her all the time. Inevitably, there are all the dramas and misunderstandings that make the course of love run un-smooth, and they make the wonderful ending all the more heart-warming.

The owners so Justin starts to ruffle Megs feathers and Meg digs her heals in further to keep the hotel going.

I first started writing when my mother gave me a writing kit for Christmas, and once I started I just couldn’t stop. You may recognise some familiar faces if you have read the earlier books, but this is a stand-alone story based around the delightful Nightingale Woods country house hotel. It's 1964 and Meg, in her 20s, is working as a chef in a kitchen - very much a man's preserve back then. Meg and Louise now need to get some staff back, with the help of long time resident of the hotel Ambrosine who does the flowers, picked fresh from the hotels gardens, they manage to bring back some locals to help.
