The drive temperature remained a cool 31 degrees Celsius, so this behaviour is almost certainly not a result of overheating but more than the controller and flash behaves differently depending on the state of the drive. The plastic bubble is most easily released by opening the packet from the side and sliding it out, revealing some additional warranty information in different languages on the inside of the package.
