About this deal

The blog was 10 years old last year and I remember hitting ‘publish’ on that first post thinking at least my mum and sister would read it. I’ve done plenty of wine tastings over the years but one particular tasting stands out, not least because I was wearing a gold catsuit and sharing a stage with DJ Sara Cox and comedians The Scummy Mummies with a tent full of knackered mothers. From throwing a children's party (because adults need something fizzy too), planning a wedding or matching wine with food, this book will help you make the right wine choice every single time. Try the Loire Valley for whites, Navarra in Spain for rosé and smaller appellations in Southern France for reds and you’ll get great value for money compared with some of the big wine region names. I had three children under five at the time so the blog was my way of carving out time to focus on something other than work or kids.

But start making a note – mental or actual – of what wine styles suit you and you can then find other wines to try that are similar but different. Now, we wouldn’t dream of eating the same thing every night (except for peanut butter on toast, could totally do that) but when it comes to wine we often stick to what we know. This book will fill you with confidence in the wine aisle, with advice on choosing the right wine for every occasion, knowing what to look for in the discount deals and picking a crowd-pleasing wine that everyone will love. A bit late but I had a busy start to the year hanging out (literally) in my swimwear doing a wine tasting in a hot tub halfway up a Swiss mountain ON NATIONAL TELEVISION.

Daily Mail Presented in a humorous, chatty style this book is an intelligent, hugely informative wine guide and McGinn is certainly well qualified to pass on advice. A decade later she is publishing the second edition of her award-winning Knackered Mother’s Wine Guide, that did so much to transform what wine means to so many everyday drinkers – both mums and dads – and is able to look back on countless TV appearances, being a regular on BBC’s Saturday Kitchen, and having a long-standing column in the Daily Mail. Her accessible and entertaining guide takes us through a ‘school year’ of simple wine lessons from an autumn term of cosy fireside reds to a summer ‘love-in’ of fruity outdoor favourites. Now I know you have not exactly been away as Helen McGinn but the Knackered Mother persona is back with your new paperback…tell us why you are looking to relaunch and update it now and how did that come about? Made in the same way but with different grapes and from a neighbouring region in Italy, it makes for a properly refreshing change.

There’s lots more good stuff happening in places like South Africa and Australia in particular, so it was great to get in a few more references of what to look out for there. Helen McGinn is the author of award-winning wine blog The Knackered Mother's Wine Club and three books including The Knackered Mother's Wine Guide, Teetotal Tipples and Homemade Cocktails.

I formulate blog posts in my head on the way back from the school run, on the train, in my weekly Pilates class (don’t tell my teacher, I’m supposed to be concentrating on my core strength). From Navarra, made by a forward-thinking producer who chooses not to add any sulphur to their wines once made. A knackered mother-friendly wine guide with insider tips on how to choose the right wine for every occasion. In your new consumer writing role what is the best way for suppliers and producers to contact you about any new wines they have? But my absolute favourite place is round a kitchen table with friends, especially when my only job is to open the wine.
