About this deal

Unlike the previous two novels, Which had multiple narrators for the audiobook, Light Bringer is only narrated by Tim Gerard Reynolds. When you’re in a massive space battle, the last thing you want is to jump to another location for a territory dispute. Make no mistake, there are people who are clearly monsters, but they’re interesting and varied monsters. In the end, I finished this book while still on the trip, on a train ride in the mountains of Norway, and spent the rest of that journey reminiscing and silently crying while looking out the window and listening to Pierce Brown's Light Bringer playlist.

I swear i lost 5 years off my life due to gut wrenching anxiety this whole book waiting for the shoe to drop. Dark Age is an amazing book but was hard to read at times due to how bleak it was, but Lightbringer is a book you can finish in a few days because it is just so easy to read. It feels like when a show knows it’s going to make its money so it no longer cares about the product. Pierce wrote himself into a corner in Dark Age, and had to quickly find excuses to patch everything together.

Light Bringer has its grim moments, but it is not the despair filled, no getting off train ride on the way to hell that Dark Age was. but that doesn't mean that i didn't love every bit of this book every time i picked it up - i just needed to take it in small doses to prepare for the intense trauma and suffering that my favourite characters ALWAYS seem to be experiencing. Because Eo’s dream is still alive – and after the dark age will come a new age: of light, of victory, of hope. If Dark Age was focused on large-scale military and political conflicts, Light Bringer is focused far more on the continuing personal developments of the characters, especially Darrow and Lysander. Pierce has delivered another stunning volume to what is my favorite modern sci-fi series and has taken things in a direction I didn’t expect but I’m anxious to see the conclusion for in Red God.

Second a lot of reviews are pooping on TGR narration or complaining about the audio quality, i think his narration is great but i understand they got use to lysander's VA from IG/DA. It is mentioned briefly here and there both to update us on what the current situation is and to talk about the ramifications it had on the characters that were involved. I also think more authors and storytellers should include snippets of recollections or flashbacks like Brown did here. In the cold prison of our minds, we are alone with our self-hatred, our doubts, and guilt… A friend may reach through the bars and hold our hand, but they cannot open the door for us. Brown’s prose has consistently gotten better from book to book, and I now consider him to be one of the masters of writing action scenes that still have gravitas and depth that goes beyond the blow-by-blow action.Darrow begins to worry he’s no better than those he fought against, and the reader begins to wonder, too. Pierce better redeem himself from the gore fest and torture porn wank festival that was Dark Age, and the fact that there are now TWO more books in this series and it’s taking forever for them to get published is PROOF that the man fucked things up plot wise so badly in Dark Age that he needs extra time to redeem his nonsense.

My emotional investment (and I think the same notion is felt by other Howlers) toward the characters is real. That is to mix the themes of hope, friendship, love, and light into the chaos of destruction the characters encounter. Seeing Cassius’ and Darrow’s relationship heal and as they helped each other grow stronger was absolute perfection. There is a lot of space travel, which does allow for plenty of more quiet, contemplative moments, but the sense of time isn’t very clearly presented to the readers.
