About this deal

Sacha, Julie and their children Rupes and Viola weren't the nicest of people and I wondered were they token characters we were supposed to dislike from the outset but as I have mentioned every character needs to be kept an eye on. Is ‘Pandora’ just a place of tranquility and beauty or will it reveal the uncomfortable secrets that Helena is desperate to keep, secrets that could change their lives and there is an Olive Tree that holds a secret of its own.

In our lives, there are so many different kinds of love that touch us and affect us everyday – love for a child, for a husband, for a parent, for a friend… All of these are special and valuable in their own way.

There are numerous characters to introduce and initially I felt there were too many for the reader to focus on but really they soon all become important players with something to add no matter how major or minor. But the characters were well developed, especially Alex and I do love Lucinda Riley's writing style. There is also an interesting discussion between the two at the end of the audiobook where they discuss Lucinda’s writing. When, by chance, Helena meets her childhood sweetheart, a chain of events is set in motion that threatens to make her past and present collide. It was then entitled ‘Helena’s Secret’, and it was fascinating to read it and remember a snapshot in time when the children had been younger.

Yet, as soon as Helena arrives at Pandora, she knows that its idyllic beauty masks a web of secrets that she has kept from William, her husband, and Alex, her son. Between them they also have a son and a daughter, Helena goes ahead to Cyprus with Alex and little by little secrets are starting to unfold. The author sets up the story nicely describing the house itself and the surrounding countryside and gives us time to get to know Alex. I have to admit, I was very nervous about the reaction to The Olive Tree from my readers, but equally, I think it’s important for novelists to push themselves in different directions occasionally so that one never becomes stale. Her books have been translated into thirty-seven languages and continue to strike an emotional chord with cultures all around the world.I have read The Midnight Rose and loved that and keep hearing great things about the Seven Sisters series too.
