About this deal

In 2010, more than 750,000 people stood in line at Marina Abramovic’s MoMA retrospective for the chance to sit across from her and communicate with her nonverbally in an unprecedented durational performance that lasted more than 700 hours. And then there was my father’s love of women, the thing that had drawn him to my mother in the first place. The child of Communist war-hero parents under Tito’s regime in postwar Yugoslavia, she was raised with a relentless work ethic. The result is a monolithic retrospective that takes us from the humble beginnings of a shy child sitting at the back of the class, to fearless pioneer, conquering and subverting the art world with boundary-pushing performances, and concluding with her most profound personal experience to date. About the content of the book all I can say is that Marina Abramovic is a fascinating human being with a strong will that leads her to the most interesting conclusions about herself, her body and the world around her.

Worse still, my brother soon developed some form of childhood epilepsy—he would have these seizures, and everyone hovered around him, giving him even more attention. br>Adrian Heathfield is Professor of Performance and Visual Culture at the University of Roehampton, London. In 2007, she founded the Marina Abramović Institute (MAI), a non-profit foundation for performance art. Her work – notorious for its feats of endurance, pain and intense physical encounter – has pushed the boundaries of contemporary art and cemented her reputation as one of the most significant artists of the past 50 years.I really need to read more of those prize winners – obviously any prize for female authors is right up my alley. It is accepted by you that Daunt Books has no control over additional charges in relation to customs clearance. Fittingly blurring the lines between artist and art, this book acts as a keystone in the life of one of the most important performance artists in the world.

She noted the advice given by the Dalai Lama at a lecture she attended, and made good use of it: “You can tell the most terrible truths if you first open the human heart with humour. The Museum of Modern Love is already on my TBR so I think I’ll stick with reading that first, but I’ll definitely keep this in mind if I love MoML.I also love the fact it has photos included, it really helps to have a good picture of events and people you may not be aware of. Maybe it was just an old habit from partisan days, but they both slept with loaded pistols on their bedside tables! Notable artist collaborations include The Marina Abramovic Method Cards, the text for Michaël Borremans' The Acrobat, as well as projects with Barry McGee, Todd Hido, and Espen Deitrichson.
