About this deal

And I'm all for suspending disbelief, but most of the lead character's choices (for an intelligent woman) simply didn't ring true.

Granted, the main character seems unstable and undecided beyond belief, letting herself stay surprisingly adrift and tossed around by events, but it still kept me glued to the book. Those are not direct quotes per se but these same questions are asked of Jude by EVERYONE in the book.By the mid-nineties Sean had had two novels published, The Imaginary Monkey and The Dreamer of Dreams, as well as numerous non-fiction books, including biographies of Jane Fonda and Brigitte Bardot. The life lesson Jude had to learn was heartbreaking, but at some point in our lives, we all have hard lessons to learn. If you enjoy a pacy thriller with a complex plot, then this may not be the book for you – but if you enjoy a well-crafted character-led story full of secrets, then this definitely is the book for you. The Chalke History Festival announces a new name, new look, and tons for history buffs to get their teeth into! Medicine is a science, it’s about trouble shooting and problem solving, and it involves logical thought processes.

The author does an amazing job at simplifying the descriptions, not over indulgent, but perfect as you can be there in the moment.

Opening with narrator Jude telling the story of the car crash that changed her life when she was seventeen, it immediately holds your attention.

However, the story goes downhill from there - a nightmare mix of nasty characters, over- complex plot and bad choices. I guessed the just-before-halfway-twist pretty well straight away, and also correctly identified the killer shortly over the halfway line. Thank you to the Tandem Collective UK for the opportunity to take part in this readalong, and to The Likely Suspects and Simon and Schuster UK for the gifted copy of the book. Though loose ends are neatly tidied away, it felt a little unsatisfactory, given the way some of the characters were prepared to treat Jude (with whom I’d bonded, despite my frustration with her).Occasionally, Jude’s actions seem a bit bizzare for an educated woman, but as the story unfolds you begin to understand why some things are like they are (although it still makes some of her actions a little questionable – I mean, she really does not seem to spot a warning sign…). Op een goede manier) Met De gunst heeft Nicci French een boek geschreven met veel en heel bijzondere personages in een bijzondere setting. Little does Jude know that this may well change her life beyond recognition and drag her into a world that she would be better off leaving alone. The writing is sharp and suspenseful, the authors holding me in the palm of their hands as they wove their web of words around me.

A busy life means that wasn't quite possible but I was truly torn between rushing to get back to it but not wanting it to be over yet. I received a gifted copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review as part of the readalong hosted by Tandem Collective UK.Jude hasn’t seen Liam in years, but when he shows up at her work asking for a favor, she finds she can’t refuse. e. an arty / spiritual person believing in karma or a person undergoing a deep personal crisis such as substance addiction / bereavement etc).
