About this deal

This wettie is a bit of a badass, designed with the surfing pro in mind rather than the casual beginner. We aim to make a positive impact on our planet through partnerships with nonprofits working hard to preserve earth’s sacred places. The only downside is that Equation is not as hardwearing as the other eco-friendly wetsuits, and given how much flex there is in the neoprene, it's worth trying a smaller size than your usual wetsuit. We’ve put together this super simple guide to walk you through each range and take the guesswork out of finding the right one for you. While a thinner suit will tire you out less and overall allow for faster reactions, all those advantages go away when your body is tense or even shivering with cold.

They’re made by Buzz and Alex, two Ocean Beach regulars themselves, with an emphasis on warmth and durability. The 4/3mm neoprene may not have the environmental credentials of some of its peers, but it'll certainly do the job at hand.Surfers who are constantly paddling can choose a thinner suit, and those who find themselves sitting and waiting for waves would probably prefer a thicker suit.

A liquid seam-seal on the outside of a wetsuit will keep your seams watertight for a lot longer than normal. Wetsuits with two-handed zippers in this review are the suits from: Quiksilver, Body Glove, Billabong, Patagonia, and Buell. For those interested in even more stretch (at the cost of some warmth), check out Picture’s line of Flex Skin wetsuits, which use an even stretchier neoprene in the arms and shoulders. The super-stretchy limestone neoprene, combined with a plush internal lining on the chest and back, retains heat without restricting movement. I’m a big fan of the brand, but as far as my experience with the wetsuit I tested, the neoprene felt solidly average in terms of stretch.Better still, the fuzzy warm stuff features throughout the Flashbomb, not just the vital chest and abdomen area, so you stay ridiculously warm in the water. Long and short alternatives help cater for a variety of body shapes but every manufacturer is different.

Pulling it on for the first time was an experience in luxury, with a super-cozy fleece lining throughout the entire suit, and very stretchy neoprene. It used to be that if you wanted a sustainable wetsuit, your option was Patagonia, and while their Yulex material is still the most sustainable wetsuit material out there, it’s no longer the only one. Since durability is a bit harder to capture after only a couple months of testing, that score was weighted less than warmth and stretch, the two main considerations.A wetsuit with an integrated hood is a good idea for the deepest winter, but it makes the suit less suitable for autumn or spring sessions when you’ll likely be surfing with the hood down, making the wettie more prone to flushing.

And an ultimate stretch test didn’t (at least to me) seem indicative of what a wetsuit actually goes through during use. Born in Cornwall and built for rough waters, it's the perfect jack-of-all-trade wettie, ideal for swimming, surfing, paddle-boarding or anything else you might want to use it for. Explore top-notch water sports gear at Wetsuit Outlet, your premier destination for premium wetsuits and surf essentials. While that may seem like the best job in the world (and, I admit, it’s pretty fun), I assure you there is nothing glamorous about getting out of the water when the waves are firing to jog back to the car, take off a wet wetsuit, yank a dry one on over my still-wet body, and get back in the water.

If you happened to rip your wetsuit, or noticed your seams are letting in more water than you would like, don’t worry, your wetsuit’s life is far from over. As you can probably tell from the photos, I’m a bit of a lanky guy, usually leaving me with a bit of exposed skin at the wrists and ankles. Lightweight, high-performance, streamlined four-way stretch, recycled polyester and Fair Trade Certified™ sewn. Isurus is another popular brand up here, and many surfers I know swear by their suits despite the very high cost.
