About this deal

AR can cleverly merge information and digital objects with the environment around you, directly onto your phone screen. (If you’ve ever played or seen Pokémon Go, you have experienced AR already.) When looking at your phone screen, this ingenious technology enables you to see (for example) handy navigation arrows on a street – aiding you towards a set location or you could view and then shoot virtual aliens as they invade your living room. The A12 Bionic chip is a six-core CPU powerhouse, which gives you fantastic performance as well as energy efficiency. With Apple’s next-generation Neural Engine, it uses real-time machine learning to transform the way you use your apps. It’s up to 15% faster and 50% more energy efficient than the previous generation A11 chip. The 4 core GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) is up to 50% faster than the A11 chip when using visually demanding apps, like games and video editing. Thanks to iOS 12 and iCloud, you can connect your Apple products automatically and make your everyday tasks easier. For example, stream videos from your iPhone XS to your television via your Apple TV 4K; everything's synced, so all your devices have the latest information. iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max are splash, water, and dust resistant and were tested under controlled laboratory conditions with a rating of IP68 under IEC standard 60529 (maximum depth of 2 meters up to 30 minutes). Splash, water, and dust resistance are not permanent conditions and resistance might decrease as a result of normal wear. Do not attempt to charge a wet iPhone; refer to the user guide for cleaning and drying instructions. Liquid damage not covered under warranty. New secondary frames, a faster sensor, and the powerful A12 Bionic chip bring more highlight and shadow detail to your photos.

Testing conducted by Apple in August 2018 using preproduction iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max units and software and accessory Apple USB-C Power Adapters (18W Model A1720, 29W Model A1540, 30W Model A1882, 61W Model A1718, 87W Model A1719). Fast-charge testing conducted with drained iPhone units. Charge time varies with environmental factors; actual results will vary. There's a pair of Apple EarPods with a lightning connector in the box with the iPhone XS Max, but if you plug this into the lightning port on the base of the phone you can't connect the charging cable to it at the same time.

And while it misses out on the iPhone 12 Pro Max's truly impressive night photography, the iPhone XS Max retains nearly all the perks inherited by its replacement. For a lower cost, you're still getting a plus-sized iPhone with the best iOS has to offer (with all the perks of iOS 14) and a great display for binging media. Overall though, Apple hasn't moved far from the design of the iPhone X with the iPhone XS Max, other than to stretch it a little. There is, however, a new color option over the X. More important than raw performance numbers these days is battery life, and the new chip – built using more efficient 7nm fabrication techniques – helps give the smaller iPhone Xs a much-needed boost.

One might question whether this much power is really needed – and sure, if you're just browsing the web and sending messages it's utterly wasted. The result is a phone that doesn't sit as comfortably in the hand as it could, and considering the size and cost of the XS Max it's a phone you want to be able to securely hold. This is only half the story though. All battery claims depend on network configuration and many other factors; actual results will vary. Battery has limited recharge cycles and may eventually need to be replaced by Apple service provider. Battery life and charge cycles vary by use and settings. See www.apple.com/batteries and www.apple.com/iphone/battery.html for more information. Gold and space gray finishes use an advanced physical vapor deposition process on the stainless steel bands for colors and reflectivity that beautifully complement the glass.

Read our Product Environmental Reports for detailed information on the environmental performance of every Apple product. That’s pretty much all you need to know, although to get the full picture you’d have to go away, read my iPhone Xs Max review, and then come here to look at the pretty pictures. I’m not going to leave it at just that, of course, because you’ve come here to read a review of the iPhone Xs and that’s exactly what you’re going to get. In fact, you’ll only be able to tell the difference between the iPhone X and iPhone Xs if a) you look really closely at the positioning of the plastic antenna bands, which have moved or b) have the new Gold version, which looks very lovely indeed, by the way.

Apple introduced a new gold finish for both the iPhone XS Max and XS, and it's a little richer than the more subtle gold finish option for the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus. If you find the gold a bit too much, the iPhone XS Max also comes in Silver and Space Gray. Apple takes a complete product life cycle approach to determining our environmental impact. Learn more aboutiPhone and the Environment What's more impressive is that the XS Max manages to squeeze a huge 6.5-inch display into a body that's a touch shorter and narrower (at 157.5 x 77.4mm) than the iPhone 8 Plus, which only boasts a 5.5-inch display.

English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Danish, Dutch, Finnish, Korean, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Swedish, Turkish That said, it's getting increasingly hard to find new models of the iPhone XS Max, so if you really still want to buy it you might have to settle for a refurbished handset. Of course, the price of those is even lower.
