About this deal

In recent years we’ve seen some exciting new annual cosmos arrive on the market. The Cupcakes Series, bred by Thompson & Morgan, have the petals joined together to form an elegant bowl, the white is especially lovely. T&M also introduced ‘Lemonade’ (‘Xanthos’ is similar), with soft lemon yellow flowers on short plants – a dramatic contrast to previous yellow flowered cosmos that were enormously tall and very late flowering. Sow Cosmos seed in trays or growing cells during early spring and cover with about 5mm of compost. The seeds are long and thin, so they can be easily handled.

Soft apricot blooms with a pale lavender underside before fading to a pale creamy yellow. The mauve-pink ring around the centre of each bloom simply adds to its beauty and this unique Cosmos is simply perfect for a warm sunny spot in the garden where it will flower continuously throughout the summer. A wonderful cut flower and a variety we have been wanting to showcase for many years. 20-27”. HHA. How to Grow Cosmos from Seed I sowed batches of four seeds of 'Apricot Lemonade' in 7cm pots on the windowsill in April, moved them into a sheltered spot outside when they came through and then planted out the potfuls, without breaking them up, at the end of May. Cosmos, sometimes known as the Mexican aster, is perennial in its native home but it’s not hardy enough for our cooler climate and so in Britain it is grown as an annual. Cosmos is easy to grow from seed, performs well in containers or bedding schemes and comes in a dazzling array of colours, heights and flower types making it a firm favourite of both amateur and professional gardeners. Watering Details: Drought tolerant. Water regularly while establishing, then water only during dry, hot spells.Cosmos prefer to grow in dry conditions, relying most heavily on regular irrigation only when they’re young seedlings. As native plants to Mexico and the Southwestern US, cosmos have adapted to be drought-tolerant plants. Suttons strives to ensure that all its plants are delivered to you in the perfect condition for planting. While the majority of our nursery plants cope well with slight delays in intransit, sadly, the time it takes to deliver to certain locations in the UK means that we can't guarantee this for some of our smaller plug products and tender bedding and vegetable lines, which do not respond well to the extra journey time. So regretfully while we offer the majority of our live plant offering nationwide, we are unable to ship plugs, begging plants and tender vegetable plants to the following areas: HS, IV41-IV49, IV51, IV55-56, KW15-KW17, PA34, PA41-48, PA60-PA78, PA80, PH40-PH44, TR21-TR24, ZE1-ZE3. Cosmos are proving to be one of the most popular annual flowers in our range at the moment,” Peter Freeman, New Product Development Manager at T&M told me reccently. “Sales of our long standing varieties are strong, sales of recent T&M introductions such as 'Lemonade'&‘Apricot Lemonade’ are extremely good. However, the most popular range by far are our unique cosmos 'Cupcakes' varieties. Harvest these stripy round courgettes when they reach the size of a golf ball to enjoy their deliciously sweet flavour. But if you prefer to wait for bigger fruits, cut them in half, stuff with your favourite filling and bake in the oven. Succession sow your courgette ‘Boldenice’ seeds from March to June and enjoy bumper crops through to the end of October. Terms and conditions To help promote cosmos blooms, plant seeds or transplants in a location that receives full sun for at least 8 hours per day. Make sure the soil is well-draining and don’t overwater them. Avoid adding any fertilizer high in nitrogen since that will promote leaf growth instead of flowers.
