About this deal

At 7.5kg, it's also heavy to lift, although not as heavy as some of other cylinder vacuums we tested, including the AEG VX8. Henry’s yellow cousin is big on storage and a little smaller in most other areas… except price. Notably, this vacuum cleaner comes with a huge storage compartment and an insane number of additional tools and parts, all of which are designed to fit snugly into the removable top compartment. Add to that all the usual benefits of the Henry range such as 9 litre capacity, a sturdy frame and reliable, long-lasting performance and you have the perfect addition for any pet lover’s home. Most of these machines have only one or two controls. An off/on switch and the cord winder. They may have a high/low setting (like the traditional Henry) and they may have a wet/dry setting (like the George). Finally, the Xtra can switch between hard floors and carpets as a special feature. Storage litres dry dust bin capacity, which is a huge amount of space. Wet, the Charles holds 9 litres. An easy-to-operate switch goes between the two.

Since its original launch in the 1980s, the Henry vacuum range has been a staple of homes and offices. But as the range grows, which one is best for you? It comes with that large 9L capacity dustbin, fantastic reach, and has multiple attachments included. Henry: Henry HVR160 is the original vacuum in the family, instantly recognisable with its sporty red colour and smiling face. This is the perfect multitasking hoover for the average family home. The HVB160 includes two batteries. These each provide a maximum run-time of 30-minutes when on standard mode. If you charge both, the vacuum can run for up to an hour in one go. This is much longer than the similarly priced Dyson V6 range, which can only last 20 minutes.Along with the standard tools such as a floor tool and upholstery nozzle, the Reach includes a flexi crevice tool. This is a thin accessory that can bend under furniture or other hard to reach areas.

If you want to get right into corners, then the crevice tool is helpful here. It’s also easy to vacuum skirting boards – just attach the crevice tool or dusting brush to the main wand and away you go. She’s been well designed with a small profile and cylindrical shape which makes her easy to store when you’re not using her. However, within that is plenty of power and space to store large amounts of dust and dirt. There is essentially no difference between the Hetty and Henry, other than her appearance. You can read our full review of this machine here. With a six Litre capacity, Hetty is the same size as the Henry 160-11, but is smaller than the Henry 200-11 which comes in at 9 litres. So is Hetty smaller than Henry? It all depends on which model you’re comparing against. The head of the family, Henry is certainly the most well known cleaner from the range. First introduced in 1981, Henry’s smiling face has been helping people to clean their homes ever since. Traditionalists will tell you this is the best Henry you can get, and if you’re looking for a reliable and affordable vacuum it’s hard to argue with this view. There’s actually two main models of this Henry, the Henry Hoover 160-11 and the Henry Hoover 200-11. The main difference between the two is the 160-11 has a bag capacity of six litres, whilst the 200-11 has a larger capacity at 9 litres. As usual, the Micro Henry comes with all the longevity and durability you would expect from this exemplary range. It looks almost the same as the basic model but has the ‘Micro’ scrawled on top. It also weighs only 7.5 kgs, just like the original, making it easy to get around your home. As an added bonus this is a small, compact machine that makes it ideal for smaller apartments.

If you have pets, either the Harry HHR200 or Henry Xtra HVX200 are great choices. Both include a turbo tool for getting rid of pet hair in carpets and upholstery. The noise level isn’t too shabby, coming in under the 80 decibel level which is around the point where people get annoyed. It cleans with awesome suction for a model that is a Class A in energy efficiency. He has a dust capacity of 6 litres which is less than his bigger cousins and brothers… but he costs less than they do. The frugal member of the family, James Hoover is a slightly smaller vacuum cleaner and comes with a couple of other alterations. A: Harry, Henry, Henry Xtra, and Hetty, all come in at the same price point. You will find they are all the cheapest of the Henry vacuum cleaner range. To switch between floor types, you'll need to press a lever on the multi-floor head, but Alison found it quite stiff to operate. The on/off switch is also positioned on the machine itself, which may be problematic if you have mobility issues as you have to bend to reach it.

Handily, the cord spools out as you go so that you can focus solely on positioning the vacuum head when cleaning. The cord is stored inside the Henry, but doesn't wind in automatically like we saw on other cylinder vacuum cleaners we tested (the Hoover Telios Extra TX50PET, for example). As such, you'll need to wind it up manually after vacuuming. The Henry Hoover range is one of the most popular in the UK – and for good reason. Numatic vacuum cleaners are powerful, reliable and often sold for very reasonable prices. If you need a vacuum you can trust, almost any of the Henry range can do a great job (although the best option depends on your personal requirements). The main difference between the George and Charles is versatility. George has been designed for a variety of cleaning tasks, including dry vacuuming, extraction vacuuming (for cleaning carpets and upholstery) and wet vacuuming. If you want a powerful vacuum that can do it all, George is a great choice.
