This book is very good, and I have a great respect for Robert Monroe. He was one of the pioneers in researching astral travel in a scientific way. I liked that he described the phenomena as objectively as he could despite the very subjective nature of the experience. Locale 1 is the Here-Now, which consists of people and places that actually do exist in the material, well-known world at the very moment of the experiment. Visits to Locale 1 generally do not contain strange beings, events, or places.

Hablemos de los escenarios. El autor mencionó en concreto tres. El Escenario I que es el aquí y el ahora. El Escenario II que es el lugar común del alma (si se podría llamar así) donde aparecen otros seres y donde todo se basa en la relación existente entre el pensamiento – acción. Y el Escenario III, el cual definitivamente es el que más intrigada me mantuvo; hay una parte en la que el autor explica su encuentro con su “otro yo” en este escenario. Menciona que era similar al Escenario I, es decir, al mundo al que estamos acostumbrados, salvo por una serie de diferencias, por ejemplo en la modernización. ¿Esto podría tratarse de otra dimensión? Sé suena como una novela de ciencia ficción, pero ¿qué pasaría si el Escenario III se tratase del anti - mundo? Me refiero a que si todas las decisiones que fueron tomadas a lo largo de la historia, hubiesen sido modificadas, entonces ¿Cuáles hubiesen sido las consecuencias? ¿Qué hubiese pasado si Alemania ganaba la Segunda Guerra Mundial? There is no point in criticizing him because that won't solve anything. Me cuesta hablar puramente del libro porque lo leí precisamente para entender mejor el porqué de este tema. Sin embargo, lo primero que percibí es que si bien el autor no se quedó con aquella “primera experiencia” y a pesar del miedo y el escepticismo, decidió ahondar más en el tema, tomando notas de cada suceso y organizando todas ellas en un elemento de interés específico. I had imagined that learning about out of body experiences would be empowering and uplifting but parts of Munroe’s account didn’t really leave me feeling that way.

The people in Locale III were not aware of Monroe’s presence and on several occasions he automatically “took over” someone’s body. Monroe states that Locale II is the natural environment of the Second Body. Locale II “seems to interpenetrate our physical world, yet spans limitless reaches beyond comprehension”. In Locale II reality is composed of “deepest desires” and “frantic fears”. Raw emotion is unleashed in full force. For Monroe, fear was the dominant theme – fear of the unknown, of strange (non-physical) beings, of “death”, of God, etc. In some instances the description of what was happening at a distant place proves to be correct and more accurate than we would expect by coincidence.Munroe’s thoughts on the “natural” home for what he calls the “second body”, astral body, or body of light: “The Second Body is basically not of this physical world. To apply it to visits to George’s house or other physical destinations is like asking a diver to swim down to the ocean bed without scuba gear or pressure suit. He can do it, but not for long, and not too many times.” pg 75-76.
