The police suspect you were up to no good. But your husband refuses to believe it. Your best friend isn’t so sure. And even you don’t know what to believe . . . An Unwanted Guest (2018) What happened to Avery? Detectives Gully and Bledsoe are on the case and determined to find her. In a neighborhood where everyone is keeping secrets, who may have witnessed her disappearance? Right from the beginning. Lapena does an excellent job of giving us an up-close look into the neighbourhood of Stanhope. It’s no different from your everyday suburban community — there are secrets on every street. Just hours later, the Wooler family has called the police to report Avery missing. But as they make the rounds asking questions, the cops begin to uncover one secret after another. Secrets that have been buried just under the surface of the supposedly safe neighborhood. The more the detectives learn, the more they realize everyone has something to hide. As they unwind the truth from the lies, however, neighbors start turning on neighbors and their words and actions spin out of control. But despite the police’s attempts, Avery’s disappearance remains unsolved. Where is the little girl? Is it already too late to save her? Only one thing is for certain—no amount of anticipation will prepare them for truth. The police have plenty of suspects, but few clues. This isn’t a new premise, but I loved how this story unraveled, including a few surprising twists and a surprise ending. I think this would make a terrific movie!

Congratulations for being nominated as one of the best thrillers for Goodreads Choice Awards! This book was definitely one of the best reads of the year! The suspense here is real; Lapena does a great job of exposing layers of domestic dishonesty and betrayal one conversation at a time.” Lapena has written a great whodunit, with a delicious Christie-like vibe. Fans of the author’s first novel will want this, and anyone who savors a well-crafted murder mystery will gobble it up!”

Where did that baby go! It’s hard not to read to the end to find out, and the twists waiting there are gratifyingly clever.” Michael, who is Avery’s older brother, expects to meet her after his football practice to walk home from school together. She is not at the school nor at home. He phones Erin, their mother, to say that Avery is missing. Erin rushes home while Michael searches places in the neighbourhood where Avery could be playing. I have now read all six of Shari Lapena’s novels, and have found them all to be entertaining! If you enjoy domestic suspense and haven’t yet read this author-it’s time to change that! Yes! Unfortunately knives are not out! Because the poor caretaker Irena already washed away the murder weapon, cleaning the traces of blood and fingertips of the murderer. She has good intentions. She literally raised those kids and she truly knows how they suffered from controlling monster a.k.a real psychopath father of the year with a big ugly secret.

As the events unfold, the lives of the upstanding and respected residents are suddenly under the microscope of the police and the media. Well-kept secrets come to light as neighbors point accusing fingers at one another and everyone comes under suspicion. When a child goes missing, everyone—from the family to the neighbors—worries that their carefully kept secrets will be exposed during the investigation.I absolutely adore Shari Lapena's compulsive thrillers and her new novel is her best yet. More twists than a roller coaster.” Overall, Not a Happy Family remains the best of La Peña’s domestic thrillers. While Everyone Here is Lying has a similar vibe, it left me questioning characters’ actions and seeking more explanations. Lapena has written a great whodunit, with a delicious Christie-like vibe. Fans of the author's first novel will want this, and anyone who savors a well-crafted murder mystery will gobble it up!” I inhaled Everyone Here Is Lying . The pace never flags, the twists are fiendishly clever, and the writing is as perfect as can be.' Liz Nugent Everyone Here is Lying is classic Shari Lapena. Impossible to know what’s coming next. Just like The Couple Next Door, you simply can’t put it down."

The story is told from the omniscient POV so we get to see what everyone's thinking. The best part of the writing is how Lapena perfectly captures each parent’s guilt, the distrust, the what if ga Releasing her first book in 2007 Shari Lapena made her début onto the literary scene with her novel ‘Things Go Flying’. It was a stand-alone title with shades of David Sedaris and Douglas Copeland in it, as it brought their wit and warmth to the forefront of the narrative. With a creative approach to the genre, it manages to take a flight of fantasy that was equally grounded in its sense of character and personality. That is actually the case with the whole book. It seems like it was brought to us in such... passive way that the it was hard to be emotionally invested. Everyone Here Is Lying is a perfectly-plotted thriller that moves whip-fast. It’s filled with lies, betrayals, and so many twists. The ending will make your heart stop. Without a doubt, my new favorite book by Shari Lapena.” All of the children were in line to inherit millions of dollars. But, would any of them kill their parents to hurry the process along?

Proving that time periods may change but people do not, Lapena delivers a solid whodunit with an ending that would make Dame Christie proud.”

Gripping, clever, and tightly plotted, EVERYONE HERE IS LYING showcases Shari Lapena at her absolute best. I was utterly transfixed. A must-read.” A] well-sculpted domestic thriller . . . highly suspenseful . . . Twists are subtly revealed with aplomb, taking the story to increasingly unpredictable levels.”
