About this deal

If you look just at the numbers, the Sisters, Daemons, and GSC Combat Patrol boxes come out as winners based on pricing and value. But if you look at the units involved, the Drukahri really come out the winner there, with everything in the box being useful and included in almost every Kabal list.

Unfortunately, The value of the Space Marines combat patrol is really just based on a little less than half the contents of the Leviathan Starter Set, minus the Ballistus Dreanought, one extra squad of Infernus and the Sternguard Squad. The Death Guard box does have a ton of value, but it comes mainly in the form of Poxwalkers, so that is hard to gauge. It is the box for you if you want a lot of Poxwalkers.Ultimately, the best miniatures are always the ones you like the most, and with over 90 units to choose from you’ll want to spend some time looking through the gorgeous miniatures galleries in Codex: Space Marines for ideas. Add a new unit or three to your Combat Patrol, give them a bold colour scheme with the help of the Paint + Tools Set , and soon you’ll be on your way to your first full-size games of Warhammer 40,000. The Space Marines are genetically modified superhuman soldiers, Angels of death, capable of ridding the galaxy of all forces that do not conform to their own rule through brutal, ruthless warfare. Space Marines are the finest soldiers available to the Imperium, enhanced beyond human limits by arcane science and honed to a razor’s edge over centuries of combat experience. They are giants of flesh and metal, standing taller and broader than the burliest of humans and encased in distinctive suits of power armour. To the rest of mankind, they are the Angels of Death – the God-Emperor’s will made manifest, and much of Humanity will go their entire lives without seeing one. For their numbers are few compared to the endless legions of the Astra Militarum, and such is their power that Space Marines are deployed only in times of direst need. Battlefields in the grim darkness of the far future are shifting as Vashtorr the Arkifane and Abaddon unleash the calamitous Arks of Omen and set intricate plans in motion.

Numbered amongst the most elite warriors in the Imperium. Created by the Emperor himself from the genetic material of the demigod Primarchs, they are the ultimate soldiers for a cruel and terrible age, waging war through a variety of forms, from the full weight of a chapter of 1,000 marines that can destroy entire species, to a small battle force of a few squads that can topple planetary governments and crush chaotic insurrections, either are lethal formations to any foe.The next three armies are all built around Start Collecting! boxes, which are all a great way to start any new force. Many of them contain enough models for you to build a Combat Patrol force right away. Genestealer Cults A Dark Apostle leads the combat patrol while reciting passages from a book… that’s on fire. He’s flanked by two dark disciples who are excellent in close quarters combat. Five Havocs are ready to bring the pain with heavy weapons, including an intimidating chaingun. Ten Chaos Space Marines bring a good mix of mid to close range weapons and the patrol is finished with heavy support in the form of a Helbrute that can dish out and take punishment as needed.

Overall, of all the Combat Patrol Boxes, the new Genestealer Cults is a pretty good value in terms of both pricing and selection of models. To keep things balanced, the weapons options for the units have been fixed for all the Combat Patrol datasheets, so there’s no need to fret about your character and unit equipment prior to a game. You don’t need to worry about which guns to give your Chaos Space Marine Havocs, for example. On paper I think this army could surprise people just because it’s not a build you’d expect to see. Vanguard Space Marine forces aren’t exactly tearing-up the meta though…so this is more of a fun challenge project than the next big GT winner. You have been warned.Much of what was mentioned for the Ancient applies to the Guard as well. Keep them within 6″ of the Captain and the Ancient and you’ll have one big scary melee ball of pain. There are more Faction Focuses coming soon to Warhammer Community, alongside more information about the game modes that will define the new edition of Warhammer 40,000. This boxed set provides you with all the units you need to get started or build on an existing force of Adeptus Astartes. The contents of this set have been specifically chosen to provide you with an ideal Space Marines force for Combat Patrol-sized games – approximately 25 Power Level's worth of miniatures.

The Tyranid box will get you all kinds of miniatures (just as you get more than the Marines in Leviathan), and again, it’s just the Leviathan box paired down. In a world of bloody Boarding Actions, it’s easy to forget the colossal battles that define the 41st Millennium are still taking place. Balefleets are the cohorts raised by Abaddon and Vashtorr, tasked with collecting the artefacts needed to complete their meticulous plan. So, this could be a good thing if you missed out on Leviathan, but for people who already scored Leviathan, you may want something a little new. But who knows? Maybe when the new 10th Edition Codex books come out, they will change things up.Several series also focus around the exploits of particularly renowned characters, like The Uriel Ventris Chronicles by Graham McNeill. This epic, long-running series follows the eponymous Ultramarines Captain on critical missions against almost every foe the Imperium has faced, and so is a great way to experience the vast universe of Warhammer 40,000 from a Space Marine perspective.
