About this deal

I - The Departure of Boromir - Aragorn finds Boromir hit with many arrows, who tells him that Orcs took Merry and Pippin, and that they were still alive. Boromir dies, and his body is set down over the Falls of Rauros on a 'funeral boat'; Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli decide to follow the Orcs who had captured Merry and Pippin, rather than following Frodo and Sam. The three of them set off to chase the Orcs. The book covers most aspects of the eagerly awaited sequel to the enormously successful Fellowship of The Ring, from locations and costumes to weaponry and creatures. The artists who created all of these diverse elements explain how they contributed to the development of the film. Some of the descriptions were nice and offered glimpses of how the process worked and what they considered when coming up with the ideas, but most were very superficial.

Eventually Tolkien settled on The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers, and The Return of the King, so that the titles of all three books could be included in the first printing of The Fellowship to entice the satisfied reader. According to his biographer Humphrey Carpenter, he initially wrote to his publisher Allen & Unwin that the towers the title referred to should be left ambiguous. On 28 July 1953, Unwin wrote to Tolkien proposing that the overall title The Lord of the Rings be abandoned and that the second volume be named either " The Ring in the Shadow" or " The Shadow and the Ring." [4] Tolkien replied on 8 August 1953, stating his opposition to having individual volume titles without an overall title. By that time, Tolkien had forgotten the volume titles he had sent in his letter of 24 March, and made a new suggestion of " The Shadow Lengthens" for volume two. [5] So this is the answer to all the riddles. Here in the wild I have you, two halflings and a host of men at my call. And the Ring of Power within my grasp." — Faramir to Frodo Baggins and Samwise Gamgee

Serkis's motion capture was generally used to animate Gollum's body, except for some difficult shots such as him crawling upside down. Gollum's face was animated manually, often using recordings of Serkis as a guide. Gino Acevedo supervised realistic skin tones, which took four hours per frame to render. Five of the characters in the film are presented somewhat differently than their counterparts in the book:At that time, the identities of the titular towers themselves were unclear in Tolkien's mind. In his letters [6] and sketches, [4] Tolkien considered several sets of towers, including Minas Tirith and the Barad-dûr, and even the possibility of leaving the matter ambiguous. Most pairs from a set of five towers in the story could plausibly fit the title: Cirith Ungol, Orthanc, Minas Tirith, Barad-dûr, and Minas Morgul. In Fangorn, Merry and Pippin meet Treebeard, an Ent. Convincing Treebeard that they are allies, they are brought to an Ent Council, where the Ents decide not to take part in the coming war. Pippin asks Treebeard to take them in the direction of Isengard, where they witness the deforestation caused by Saruman's war effort. Enraged, Treebeard and the Ents storm Isengard, trapping Saruman in his tower. You can see the immense forethought that Tolkien put in to every single instance of this book. His character building is not only well done, but it is patient. These characters grow more and more as the book continues, which makes different reveals, and different relational developments that much more satisfying. The foundational work that he puts in to this book make you immediately find interest in the successive books. Carpenter, Humphrey, ed. (1981). The Letters of J. R. R. Tolkien. Boston: Houghton Mifflin. ISBN 978-0-395-31555-2. While the novel alludes to a division within his mind, the film depicts him as having a split personality. The two personas—the childlike Sméagol and the evil Gollum—are established during a scene in which they argue over remaining loyal to Frodo. The two personalities talk to each other, as established by contrasting camera angles and by Serkis altering his voice and physicality for each persona.

The third theme for the One Ring is an impervious snarl, limited to only four or five pitches, and unwavering in its focus. As with the other ancient powers of Middle-earth, Shore treats this theme to Eastern-tinted harmonic inflections suggesting a past age. The Shire & The HobbitsBut even though trailers for The Two Towers explicitly enumerated its namesake spires as Barad-dûr and Orthanc, the American psyche was already grappling with the legacy of another two towers. And through no fault of their own, the mainstream success of The Fellowship of the Ring invited some comparison-making for its much anticipated sequel. Oh no, is this about 9/11?
