About this deal

Was intimacy between Jessica and Nate necessary? I’m not so sure. It was a little far fetched just like jaw dropping and surprising conclusion of the story. Of course not so foreseeable revelations were well executed but some events were a little exaggerated. The Echo Man is all at once captivating and terrifying. Sam Holland gives the darkness a full embrace in this violent and disturbing exploration of a serial killer and the broken people he leaves in his wake.”—Kate Myles, author of The Receptionist This book is quite graphic and visceral at times and some readers might not like that. I can't say that bothered me greatly although there were more than enough murders for the police to get to grips with. The book is written in the present tense and that was OK too. The pace and tension are generally well worked.

I always like to learn something when I read a novel and in this case it was about music. The mentally ill woman Byrne knows plays the cello. Music, the movements of a symphony, etc., play an important part in solving the case.Once I got to the ending, all I could say was “wow”. There was an ending, and I thought that was it (and it was great). Then, I kept going and there was ANOTHER ending (I called at 58% in, for the record!) that dropped a bomb and twisted everything around … I didn’t mind that I figured out the big twist though, because it was still much bigger than I thought it would be.

But seriously... this is a really impressive debut. It is extremely graphic and violent. Every trigger warning out there is in here ten fold. But don't let that prevent you from reading this unless you really can't stomach it. After writing an essay about Music compositions and Composers , it seems appropiate to write a review on Richard Montanari's latest novel "The Echo Man".I was given an advance copy of this book from Netgallery in return for writing a review. The review does not have to be a good one but needs to be based on the entire book. There were definitely parts to the book that I enjoyed - investigating the crime scenes was one of them.

The ending was impressive. I was really satisfied with it. I won’t say more as it’s good to go in blind! Echoes, yes: echoes of Lisa Gardner, of Jeffery Deaver, of Stuart MacBride – The Echo Man evokes that same classic, satisfying, red-blooded fear. But Sam Holland’s stellar debut is very much its own beast, wily and brawny and dangerous: a lethal new predator in an alluringly old-school skin.”

The plot line was calling me and of course there would be digital reviewer copy that my name on it to devour and share my opinions! The characters were all pretty interesting & I particularly liked the snippets about ‘someone’ in the past & trying to work out who it was in present day. The Jess & Nate storyline felt a little odd & unnecessary. 🤷‍♀️

After finishing the book, I was - again - left with an overwhelming feeling that it is so wrong that we get a a good pass-time on the expense of murder, mayhem, rapes and torture. Why are we, the readers, attracted to such content? I remember my old English teacher stating that we are attracted to horror movies and books, because it shows us that our seemingly dramatic lives could be much worse and that it leaves us with a feeling of contentment and relief that we are spared such abominations. I'll still have to ponder on that.I decided on the audio for this one and loved that format. It was so addictive and cringey, hearing it out loud. It was exactly the reading experience I needed at the moment. Sam Holland’s chilling debut draws inspiration from infamous serial killer cases, culminating in the ultimate, heart-pounding copycat tale.
